Default 4 Prong wall receptical with a flat neutral

I have a fairly new Whirlpool dryer with a standard 4 prong plug in which the bottom neutral has an "L" shape. The problem is that the house I'm renting has a 4 prong with a flat bottom neutral. So I went to Home Depot and bought a range plug to switch out with mine because it is the right shape but it's 40 amps not 30 amps so it blew the fuse. Home Depot doesn't seem to think there is a 30 amp with a flat neutral for a dryer but the previous owner had a dryer. So.... any ideas? Does anyone know where to find one or should I get an electrician to put in the correct receptical?
Thanks in advance for any help.

I agree with the other guys who questioned if you wired the new plug correctly. The amperage rating of the device will not cause a fuse to blow,(the rating identifies the amount of electrical current the device can safely handle) but a short circuit from improper wiring, or stray strands of wire contacting anything but the proper terminals certainly will.

Take a close look where your pigtail wires are landed on the appliance itself, and make sure the correct terminals are connected to the proper plug blades. Crossing the "neutral" with one of the "hot" leads is the most probable cause.

Thanks for the help so far. I actually tried the plug in the outlet before I wired it correctly (I'm sure) to the dryer just to make sure it was the right size.

So on the dryer you have red on right / black on left / white and cabinet ground on center / cord ground to the cabinet...

Thanks everyone, finally got the builder out and he admitted that it was a outlet for a range not a dryer and changed it out. Still no idea why the fuse popped but atleast the dryer now works, but yes I really did hook the pigtail up correctly. Thanks again for the help - CW
