Water Dispenser Problem
Hi, I'm having a similar issue to the person in this thread (Ice/Water Dispenser Troubles - ApplianceBlog.com - Appliance Repair Forums), but I'm not sure it's the exact issue.
My icemaker is working fine, my water dispenser just suddenly stopped working. I looked for the slots on the bottom of the dispenser housing as explained in the above thread, but I didn't see any. If I feel up under the housing (kind of in front of the icemaker/water dispenser), I can feel 2 sort of buttons (one on each side). If I pull on those, I can feel the dispenser housing loosen slightly. And what's weird is if I pull on it a bit, the water dispenser works for a while. But it seems like it snaps back in place, so the water dispenser stops working. Does that make any sense at all? Please let me know if there is something else I should check.
Also, if I need to remove the dispenser housing, how do I get the front cover assembly off? If I remove the overflow grill, I can see some little slots on either side of where the grill was. Is that where I'm supposed to pop off the front cover assembly? I tried to do this to see if something is pressing on the water dispenser lever, but couldn't figure it out for the life of me.
Hopefully that all makes sense!
Thanks,
Emily

Hi Emily,
Sounds like the plastic pins thats on the water/ice dispenser support have broken.
Yes, On SOME models, You would need to unsnap(use a flathead screwdriver in the 2 little slots underneath the bottom frame piece to unsnap it) your front dispenser frame#23 here or remove that drip tray#9 and you said there was 2 slots behind that drip tray, get a flashlight and look and see if a screw is in each slot:

Then look at your support bracket#15 to see if the little plastic pins are broken that hold your ice and water dispenser switches in place#14.
Here is the one for your model, in case you need to order it:
Manufacturer part number 2180226 is RepairClinic item number 449582

Well, the front panel cover didn't come off very easily. I actually ended up taking off the freezer handle (it runs the entire length of the freezer), and I was able to slide out the top stainless steel panel, then pop off the housing (or most of it anyhow). As I was doing so, a little white pin fell out (this is obviously one of the little pins pictured in the bracket photo you posted). Clearly, I've never done this before, so forgive the stupid questions. I still can't figure out where the support bracket is. I haven't got the front panel entirely off. It's connected to the back part of the housing by the wire assembly. Do I need to actuallly unplug that to get to the bracket to replace it? Or should I be able to see/replace the bracket without doing so? Again, thanks and sorry for the silly questions!
Thanks,
Emily

Ok Emily,
You see the #22 screw in the above parts diagram next to #15? There are 2 on each side of that bracket on the top of it, just remove those and the bracket comes out.
The #14 switch just snap in place, just unsnap them first before you remove the bracket.
Unplug or turn the breaker of to your refrigerator first.
If the wire harness is in the way, you can unsnap the connector to get more room.

Thanks Jake. Yep, I see that #22 screw. It'd be a lot easier if the housing was white and not black. It's hard to see up there!
I went ahead and ordered the part and will, hopefully, be able to get it in wihtout breaking anything!

Ok, sounds good.
Then when you get the new bracket, the two #14 switches just push/snap into the same slot with pins NOT broken.
