[FIXED] Whirlpool Fridge stops running until I adjust temp control
Hello,
I have a ~10 year Whirlpool (model ED25RFXFW01) that will stop running (lights work but compressor not running) occasionally (becoming more frequent). It will usually kick on when I adjust the temp controls, sometimes having to turn them all the way to the coldest setting...sometimes having to turn "off" and then back on again.
Reading here and other places it seems the relay is often the culprit so I removed it and do not hear a rattle. Also it doesn't appear that the compressor has trouble starting (no strange clicking noises)...just that it does not try to start when it should.
I wonder if the thermostat has gone bad? Any help is appreciated including where to buy parts and how to replace them.
Many thanks
Joe

Yes Joe, Sounds like your cold control thermostat is starting to go out.
Unplug your refrigerator first before installing the new one.
Here's the cold control thermostat for your model you can order:
Manufacturer Number 2198202

Your cold control thermostat is #9 here in this diagram:

Pull the #26 & #27 knobs off first.
#25 trim just un-snaps
Don't worry you won't break it. Get a flathead screwdriver and just pry at a corner then it all will un-snap, and the screws are in front and underneath it.
Remove the 2 #3 screws in front and 2 underneath it.

Thanks Jake. I had to get a new relay too, because I managed to break mine when I was taking it out to test (i.e. shake) it.
I have received the new relay and temp control. I am having trouble remembering which of the terminals to attach the white wire to. I thought it was terminal #1, but I don't trust my memory too much these days.
Can you confirm?

The white wire goes on the left side of the relay when your looking at it mounted on the compressor.

Thank you again! My fuzzy memory was telling me it was the top-left terminal. You confirmed the left, should it be the top one? Or maybe it doesn't matter?

It doesn't matter, as long as its on the left side.
