Default Whirlpool GS6NBEXRL00 Ice Maker Not Working

    Model Number: GS6NBEXRS00
    Brand: Whirlpool
    Age: 1-5 years

Hello. Recently my son left the freezer door of my side by side open all night. In the morning I noticed the ice, etc. had melted and dripped down the door of the freezer. The ice maker would not work.

I took the ice bucket out of the freezer, cleaned and defrosted it, and cleaned all ice around the door and ice maker. I put the bucket back in and pushed the outside ice button on the door and it does not make the ice dispense. I took apart the outside dispenser (the water side still dispenses) and cleaned out the ice on the inside of the door where the gear engages the auger in the ice bucket. I was able to get the ice maker working for a day or so and it stopped again. Do I order the electronic control panel for the front of the door as that may have burned out or is there another solution? Is that part easy to install or should I call a repair technician? Thank you.

Its best to have a Whirlpool tech. come out on your model, because your model uses multiple control boards in the dispenser system that would be difficult to diagnose on just the forum here.

I have a Whirlpool Gold refrig model # GNBEXRS00 that will not dispense ice when the contact is pushed. I hear the contact swithing but nothing comes out. The ice maker is working fine. Sometimes if I hit the inside bottom of the ice bucket it will begin to work. Can someone give a hand. Could it be the same problem as stated previously?
    Thanks TJ

    Hi TJ,

Please recheck your model#, nothing came up on that one.

Do you hear the ice bucket auger motor hum when nothing comes out?

Yes I do Jake. I do hear a hum. I took the model number from the top inside right of the unit.

    Thanks,

Check the voltage on pins 1 and 2 of your auger motor.

Read here at these 2 threads:
    Kenmore Elite dispensor motor troubleshooting
[FIXED] Auger Motor for Kenmore Elite

The 2 Kenmore models in the threads above are identical to the Whirlpool exactly.

Do you see pins 1 and 2 on the electrical connector that plugs into the motor? Voltage test between those with the ice dispenser lever activated.

Thanks Jake I'll check the pins. How do I get to the part? I'll keep you posted.

    Ok, sounds good.

Now some models you have to do access the auger motor from the front dispenser:
The screws that I had to remove were actually on the outside of the freezer door. I removed the drip pan which slides out for cleaning, then removed the two screws behind it. That allowed the front panel to slide off. Then I just removed the four screws holding the motor in place. Before you can remove the motor, you have to open the freezer, take the ice holder out and remove the 2 screws holding the turning mechanism in place. One you do that, you have to remove all of those parts including the long metal pole which is inserted into the motor.
