So the guy came over, listened to my description and said "bad water inlet valve". We took off the back of the fridge and exchanged the water/ice tube and tested it at the door. It worked, then we switched them back, did not work. Seemed a lot easier than the cheater, but takes two people...or you get a bunch of water on the floor.

Thus, bad ice-side solenoid. I ordered a new one and should have it in a week. Seems like an easy fix. Turn off water, remove one screw and the old valve, then push in the main water valve, push in the ice and water lines, and then plug in the two solenoids. Screw back on. Pretty straightforward.

BTW - the guy (Boris) from Repair Guard in Los Angeles did not charge me for the re-visit. They are the best!!!

    Can't wait for my ice!

I'll post after I get it installed and get some ice - thanks Jake!!

    Jake-

I got the new solenoid today and installed it. The installation we fairly simple - the only complication was trying to figure out the new mounting bracket, as the new solenoids are not the same as the ones I removed. Im guessing that KitchenAid has changed the design.

After installation I turned on the ice maker. My ice bucket is about half full now! This project was a puzzle, as I never expected to have a bad ice maker AND a bad ice solenoid at the same time.

With any luck, this will be the last I have to worry about it. I want to thanks you for your diagnosis and encouraging words. I'll never take ice for granted any more...
