Default Ice maker broken, water dispenser works

    Model Number: ED5PHEXNL00
    Brand: Whirlpool
    Age: 6-10 years

I cut off the water to my home to install a slop sink in the garage, the ice maker hasn't worked since. The weird part is the door still dispenses cold water like it should. I'm guessing there is air in the lines or some type of blockage in the line. Can someone offer some troubleshooting steps?

    Thanks....

Five more numbers or letters in that model number after the "E" I need to look it up.

Thanks rickgburton, here is the full model number: ED5PHEXNL00. I also just broke the dial off of the front of it so if you could, provide the replacement part number for the entire ice maker, and a place that I could purchase it, I'll replace the whole unit.

    Thanks...

When I look up that model it doesn't show the complete ice maker. That's probably because it uses the Max-Ice. That's not a problem. I can give you a link for the complete ice-maker but I thought I would give you some options. I'm not sure what you're calling the "dial off the front of it". Are you talking about the main gear on the power module? You can remove the ice-maker and look at the mold assembly where the ice cubes are formed. If it looks good then you can save a few dollars and just replace the power module. Now I would hate to see you replace the ice-maker or power module and still not have it work so you should take a cheater cord and apply 110 VAC directly to the water valve solenoid and make sure it's working and water comes out of the fill tube. Take the wire connector off the red coil and then hit it direct. Be ready to catch any water in the freezer section where the fill tube is. That might be the problem with the ice maker (unless you did break the main gear). Here are the parts:

I meant I broke the white dial off of the front of the control module. I just did your test of the solenoid and water came out immediately. Does that mean I only need to replace the control module?

    Thanks...

At this point it might be more cost effective to replace the ice-maker. There's a chance the harvest thermostat or heater is bad and with the main drive gear broken, we can't run it to check it. Once you separate the housing from the mold assembly you start getting leaks. However RepairClinic has an excellent return policy so if you want to try replacing just the power module, if it doesn't work you can return it for a refund and buy the entire ice-maker. The chances of it being just the power module are better than 65%.

Make sure you inspect the rest of the ice maker before ordering just the power module. Some of those ice makers are having a problem with the plastic coating on the mold assembly. It's starting to bubble in spots on some of them and that will cause more problems.

Great, thanks for all of your help. I guess the first link you sent earlier (Ice Maker Assembly Ice Maker Assembly 4317943 Order now for same day shipping. 365 day return policy. RepairClinic.com) is what I need to get then?

Yes that one will work for your machine. Just take the cover off of the new one because you won't need it and save the bail arm from your old one to replace on the new one. It doesn't come with it.

The new ice maker showed up yesterday, I installed it (very easy install), and I'm now making ice. Rick, thanks again for all of your help.
