Whirlpool freezer working but refrigerator is not cold
Brand:
Whirlpool
Age:
1-5 years
Hello all,
I have a Whirlpool french door refrigerator with freezer at the bottom. The freezer is working but the refrigerator is not cold. I read some other posts here and it said to check the freezer. I can hear the fan but there is frost on the back panel.
It said the air diffuser may have an ice clog? So do I just unplug it and hope it melts and then plug in again to see if it works? Anything else I should check?
thanks.

When I look up that model number nothing comes up. Read it from the model tag the refrigerator fresh food section. Help Me Find My Model Number - RepairClinic.com

Your still missing 2 more numbers after the "A" at the end of your model#.
Sounds like you have an auto-defrost part that has gone out, once you post those last 2 numbers we can help you see what part has failed.

Thanks,
Now what you want to do is force a defrost cycle, you should have a tech. data sheet behind your bottom kickplate grille that tells you how to force a defrost cycle.
When you've done that, wait a about 5 minutes and feel the back bottom panel inside your freezer to feel for warmth.
Let us know.

Sorry if this is non-technical but I had baby food we needed to keep so I called in a technician. He took the inside back panel of the freezer off and measured some things with an ohm meter (?) and it read 0's and he said they were fine. He then used something that looks like a pen that glows red when touching a wire with an active current (?) and said one of the wires should have glowed red but didn't. He said it was probably the control board. He ordered the part and defrosted all the ice. He said it would be okay until the part came in and he would come install it.
I then saw your post and forced a defrost cycle. It sounded like it worked and then I felt the back bottom panel and it was slightly warmer than the other areas. 2 questions I had were 1. How warm should it get? 2. Is it possible that it's still the control board even though the defrost cycle appeared to turn on?
Is there anything else I can check to see if something besides the control board is bad, or to verify that it is in fact the control board?
Thanks so much for the help.

Too many variables but it doesn't matter as long as it turned on. It's either good or bad. No in between. That also confirms the defrost terminator is good.

If the refrigerator is now working properly then he must have defrosted the coils. If the cooling problem was caused by a defrost problem then he is correct. The Jazz board controls the defrost cycle

I had the new control board put in. I suppose I won't know if that was the issue until I see if the refrigerator goes warm again.
