Whirlpool s/s fridge not cold
Brand:
other
Age:
6-10 years
We have a Whirlpool Gold S/S about 6 1/2 yrs old. The refridgerator side not cold. Friend told us it woulld be the defroster if we unplugged it and let it totally defrost and it then worked, which we did and then replaced the defrost. It worked for a couple of weeks and now is not working again. We unplugged and defrosted again and now it is getting cold but we did the air flow test and the air flow seems intermitent. At first, not much air, now better but I feel a difference when opening or closing the freezer. There is no ice since it was unplugged dfor over 24 hrs and jusxt plugged back in a couple of hours ago. Any idea what might be the problem? We bought it when we moved herefrom outof state and have no appliance repair person we have used in this area. I am not even sure where to start!

If you open the freezer door and the air flow increases into the refrigerator section, then close the freezer door and it decreases that means there is still ice blocking the vent or return duct.
#4 here is your return air duct louver that unsnaps:

on the left side wall in your refrigerator section, so you will likely need to remove the middle shelves and lower drawers to access it.
Clear all the ice out and see if that solves it. You can run hot water down and see if it flows out from the bottom vent inside the freezer.

Thank you, I will try that, but it sure seems all ice would have been melted after being unplugged after 24 hrs. I will try anything! Will let you know how it worked.

Actually it is the oposite, that when the freezer door is closed the air flow is better, however I checked both after work and they are both blowing old air, but I just deforsted it. What could be causing the ice to builid up on the coils (which is when the fridge gets warm) We have already replaced the defroster.

Ok, when you say defroster what part? You have 3 parts that make it defrost, The control board, The defrost thermostat, and The defrost heater.
If the defrost heater doesn't come on, then unplug your refrigerator and Ohm your defrost thermostat for continuity(WHILE FROSTY) to get a accurate reading.
Here's the defrost thermostat for your model:

Ok, then the control board is bad.
Here's the control board for your model you can order:
Manufacturer's Number: W10135090

Unplug your refrigerator first! Just pull your refrigerator out from the wall and take off the lower back access panel and you will see the control box on the right side.
Its #18 here, located in the back of your refrigerator inside the control box#19:

Thanks, Jake. I will have my husband look at this, but it may be beyond what we can or should do on our own. I appreciate it, and in looking over other remarks on this same part issue, I see some that state that there were errors and such on the led readout and the light went out, then came back on. When I plugged it back in after defrosting it last week end, I had that same issue, so this makes sense.
