Whirlpool Ice Maker Light Situation
I own a Whirlpool Side by Side Refrigerator/Freezer model #ED5PHAXMQ00. I've had it for 4 years and as of a few days ago, it no longer make ice. I have read other threads in here about getting clues from blinking lights to see if you need a new PC Control Board. In my situation, sometimes when I open the freezer door, the light on the right hand side does not come on at all. So I then press the flapper on the left hand side and hold it in to wait for the light on the right to come on--nothing. So I flip open the covering of the ice cube maker arms on top and start jiggling the arms and other things behind the covering. Then the light comes on and does the infamous 2 blinks and a pause followed by a 1 second delay. Then I go back and push in the flapper on the left hand side and the red light on the right illuminates but does not flash (just stays on steady). I come back 5 minutes later, the light on the right hand side is flashing the 2 blinks and a pause routine but it will stay constant and not flash if I push in the flapper on the left. Then when I come back in 3 hours and I open the freezer door, no light appears. So it appears that after longer periods of not opening the freezer door, I get no light while frequent opening and closing will get the flash routine.
Does this suggest I need a new PC control board? There are no stuck ice cubes anywhere in the freezer that I can detect.

Hi,
Does the ice maker fill with water?
Are there cubes in the ice maker, but they don't dump out into the door bin?
One trick I do to test the board on the left hand side of the freezer is to hold my camera phone up to it.
That side has a infrared light and many digital camera's can see the infrared light on there screens.
I use my camera phone just becuase it's handy as it's with me all the time.
I have tried this with other digital cameras too and all the ones I have tried do the trick too.
You will see the IR light as a flashing white light on the camera view finder screen if it's working.
You can test your camera to see if it pickes up IR light by trying it with the TV remote.
Here is a little simple diagram I just put together too that may help you understand how things work.

Hi,
I do not see any ice cubes in the ice maker. I'm not sure if water is flowing to the ice maker, but water does dispense from the water dispenser on the outside of the freezer. Unfortunately, I don't have a camera phone.

water does dispense from the water dispenser on the outside of the freezer
That only tells you that there is running water to the refrigerator.
The water still may not be getting to the ice maker.
Something easy for you to to check.
Make sure the water line going to the ice make is not frozen shut.
Pull the refrigerator out from the wall. Take a look at the back of the refrigerator and you will see the plastic water line running up to the top corner of the freezer.
This is were it runs through the ceiling of the freezer and into the ice maker.
Disconnect that plastic line and see if you can blow air though it.
If you can't it is frozen shut and that's your problem.
Let me know what you find..

I read the Whirlpool In Door Ice System Job Aid manual R-92 that was available on here through a link and where it says "with the flapper door on the emitter module held closed and the ice maker not in the 5 minute harvest mode, the status LED should be on steady. This indicates that the optics circuits are operating properly. If the LED continues to flash, refer to the Troubleshooting Chart on page 5-9. " I did thetest and everything is working well on the LED control. I get a steady LED light.
Two days ago, I unplugged the entire refrigerator/freezer unit, let it defrost for 24 hours, plugged it back in, let it get back to normal and still no ice--same situation. Motor works well on ice cube dispenser on freezer door, but unit not making ice (ice bucket in door empty and also no ice, water or nothing around the ice making unit) and I checked the plastic ice line on the back of freezer and no air was blocking it. All my food items are nice and cold though.
Any suggestions as to what parts I should buy? Thanks.

Ok, then pull your refrigerator out from the wall, then disconnect your plastic tubing fitting#13 here:
http://www3.sears.com/imaging/ImageP...&titleID=00012
that goes into the back top of your refrigerator, then blow through it(the tubing that goes into your refrigerator), if you can't blow through it, then its still clogged.

I disconnected the plastic tubing fitting and was able to blow air through it. It was not clogged. I also removed the water line and it was extremely dirty, and the lining appears to be peeling off on the ejector tray.

Still no water?
You may need to do a voltage check at your the ice maker side of your water inlet valve when you cycle your ice maker, you should get 120 volts.
