whirlpool double wall oven doesn't work
Okay, have been reading the archives - have a Whirlpool electric double oven, model #RBD305PDQ6, approximately 9 years old. Went to clean the upper oven a week ago with the clean cycle and thereafter, it hasn't worked. Lower oven works fine. Fans work fine in both units. Electronic panel works fine. Replaced element in bottom and new one doesn't work either. From the archives, I am determining that this may be the thermal cut-out fuse that has failed. Any suggestions or thoughts? If it is this - where is this monkey in the unit and do we have to pull the oven to replace this part?
Right now we are weighing 9 year old heavily used oven vs. replacement, but if it is just a $40 part, that's an easy decision.
If we have to examine replacement, anyone have any suggestions of a die-hard new model. We paid $1300 for this oven initially. Good ones are so expensive! But, we have a ton of kids and I cook enough and at a level that I could easily justify a professional oven. I have already killed one cooktop and gone to a very nice one to replace and thus far 2 dishwashers as well with our daily usage.
Thanks!,
Mimi

Ok, you would need to do a ohm check for continuity on your upper oven thermostat, but you would need to pull your double oven out from the wall to get to it, I would suggest 2 people helping pull this out.
Make sure you have the power turned off at your home breaker box before doing this.
Here is the upper oven thermostat for your model, in case you need to order it.
(click photo for pricing/ordering information):

If your thermostat checks good, then its your control board thats bad:

But at $465.00, I would suggest just putting that repair money into a new double oven.

electrical smell
Hmmm. Any other additional thoughts on this one? Husband, who is a good handy man and electrical engineer by training, says that when you turn on the upper oven, he smells a slight electrical odor.

Whirlpool model #RBD305PDQ6 oven temp set problem
Found this thread. I've had the same problem - Whirlpool oven model #RBD305PDQ6....element stopped working after using the oven cleaning mode. I replaced the thermostat today and now the element is working. One remaining issue: when trying to adjust the temperature of the oven it always goes down - whether you press temp up or temp down. In other words it starts at 350 F and only goes down from there. Hoping this is not a critical problem with the control board. Is there a control board reset sequence I need to go through now that I've replaced the thermostat? Thanks.

So what your saying is, that you set it at 350, the element gets red hot and goes to 350 then when it reaches 350 the element turns off and won't cycle back on again at all?
If thats the case, then yes, your control board is bad, yours uses the same one as I posted above, but the price is lower now, its $181.00 but out-of-stock.
Unfortunately, there is not reset on the control board.

Whirlpool model #RBD305PDQ6 oven temp set problem
Sorry Jake, I wasn't clear enough the first time. I can set the temp for 350 and the element gets red hot. If after starting the oven (which defaults to 350) I press temperature "down", the temperature indication goes down....350...345...340, etc. Problem is that if I press the temperature "up", the temperature indication also goes down....350...345, etc. Can't set the temperature above the default 350 degrees.

Ok, then it sounds like a problem in the control panel keypad assembly.
Here's the control panel keypad assembly for your model:
Manufacturer's Number: 4451314

Its very expensive, so I usually recommend if your oven is about 10 years old, to save your repair money and just invest in a new oven, I know money is tight with most people now, so if you don't buy an oven with all the bells and whistles, just a basic oven that does the job, you can save lots of money, the basic ovens start at about $459 for a single oven, and $586 for double ovens.
