Default Which Part Number?

I have a Whirlpool model #GS6SHAXMB00 which no longer cools. I've had this problem before right after the warranty had expired. The technician replaced the compressor overload switch (his part #2261636). Apparently, this part number has since been replaced by part number 8201799. However, when I look this part number up on the Whirlpool parts list, it indicates part number 2255198. Which part number should I order?

Also, it appears now that my refrigerator is working again--wonder how long that'll last.

Thanks.

Robert

Default Alternate Universe?

Thanks for the quick response, Jake. However, I'm beginning to think that it's another problem. Get this--if I turn the refrigerator on to any number, it turns off. If I turn it off (no numbers displayed) it turns on. This might be liveable but when the fridge is off, the ice/water will not dispense and who knows what temperature it gets to before it turns off-if ever.

Have you seen this before?

Best regards,

Robert

Yes Robert I've seen that happen before, it was due to someone putting on the refrigerator knob wrong and it wasn't coinciding with the numbers.

Here's the parts diagram for your model Robert:
GS6SHAXMB00
Diagram#3 Part location#26 is your refrigerator control knob, check your control knob just to make sure.

Thanks for your suggestion Jake but no one has removed or replaced the refrigerator knobs--it just started "working" this way. Moreover, the cooling level displays are blank which should indicate the off position. When I turn the refrigerator on the displays come on but the compressor switches off and does not come back on until I switch it off again.

Go figure---I guess it's time to call the tech.

Best wishes,

Robert

Ok, yes, calling out a tech. may be your best option now. But it seems like its possibly your control assembly in diagram#3 Part location#6 in your parts diagram link I posted above.

Let us know what the tech. finds out Robert.

Default Help again?

Hi Jake:

Well I thought having a tech come out would be the best decision however, the one I was able to get out didn't have a clue and wasn't that familiar with this model and the Whirlpool recommended service centers are going to take 8~10 days to get to me.

Looks like I may have to shotgun it. If you were a betting man, which part(s) would you see needing replacement? Main Control board? User interface board? Thermistor?

I've repaired my own refrigerators, dishwashers, etc. before so I'm familiar with working with such equipment--it's just that I didn't want to.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Robert

I'll choose Door Number 3 Monty.

GS6SHAXMB00
Diagram#3 Part location#6 is the control board, those go bad the most. I would say that will do it for you.

If you purchase parts from our links here and you install them and it doesn't fix the problem, you have a 30 day full refund.
