Question Question to Jake and all - should I go stainless?

Jake, and all,

I'm getting ready to replace the motor assembly on my GU1500XTLS2 Quiet Partner IV dishwasher, and thought, "should I replace the tub with stainless while I"m at it"???

Can that be done? How difficult of a task would this be? Jake, does your company sell the stainless tub for a GU1500XT?

While I'm updating this unit, are there any other components I should be looking at replacing, such as the soil sensor, etc.??? While I've got it apart for the motor assembly, I'd like to get as much of it cleaned up as possible. With the price of new dishwashers today, there's no way I can afford to replace the entire unit, so might as well clean it up while I have some time.

In advance, your advice and suggestions are most welcome and greatly appreciated!!!

Oh, also Jake, I have the entire motor assembly in my shopping basket ( Pump and Motor Assembly ) as I think I should replace the entire assembly, but would it be more appropriate to just replace the motor ( Motor )?

Also, are the the correct parts for my model? And lastly, I saw a post explaining removing the entire assembly thru the tub, is that correct? Even to replace the heating element I pulled the whole dishwasher out, and don't want to have to do that again unless it's the easier way to accomplish the motor replacement.

Hi Robinh,

No, you won't be able to change your tub for a stainless steel one. Its not possible.

Yes, it would be better to change the complete pump and motor assembly. Yes, you can leave the dishwasher in place to change the sump/pump motor assembly.

Here's the repair manual for your model:
https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/52521bdbd0ef763c85256cbc00520548/$FILE/8178022.pdf

Page 17 Read 1-4 where it says this:

SERVICING COMPONENTS INSIDE THE WASH TUB
Removing the Inner Feed Tube and
Lower Spray Arm

Page 20 shows the 3 tabs, yes one is in the very back.

Page 21 shows how to remove the pump motor. Yes, one you get the pump motor off, you can reach your hand to the back and get to the last tab.

The complete sump assembly will push up from bottom, remove the electrical connector as well. And the thermistor twists to remove too.

Jake

Great Jake, I'll order that pump motor assembly and get-er done! I'll do a photo journal like I did with the heating coil, may help others who wish to do the same!
