Default Whirlpool Icemaker leaking

We have a Whirlpool refridgerator/freezer (model# ED5HLAXMQ10) that is 3 1/2 years old. It is a side-by-side model. Recently it is producing a constant water drip into the ice maker and the drip won't stop. The ice maker will fill up and make cubes, but the water keeps dripping into the ice maker and causes a huge mess.

When we turn the main water supply line off, the drip stops. But when the water supply is back on, there is a drip that keeps coming from the black spout inside of the freezer. This will keep dripping into the ice maker even when the ice maker is full.

The ice maker appears fine. I think there is some problem in the water line and black spout. I have tried to take the black spout off, but it seems like it is attached and there doesn't seem to be a way into check on it any other way.

Is this an easy fix or will we need to have someone come out? We're complete novices, but this is the 3rd time this ice maker has had a problem & we're hoping to be able to fix ourselves since it is so expensive to have someone repair.

Thanks in advance.

Carrie

Hi Carrie,

Please double check your model#, That one doesn't show as good.

Sounds like your water inlet valve is bad. Once I have your correct model# I'll find the cheapest one you can order.

Sorry - it's model# ED5LHAXMQ10.
Is it fairly simple to replace?

Thanks,

Yes, its easy to replace, just pull your refrigerator out from the wall, turn off your water supply to the refrigerator, take off the water supply line connector, unmount the water inlet valve from the refrigerator cabinet, take off the electrical connectors(mark down were they go first) then take off the tubing(also mark were they go) then install the new water inlet valve.

Here's the one for your model you can order:
Manufacturer's Number: 4389177
