Greetings. I have a GU1500 that has been giving me grief for months. Started out with the standard top rack cleaning problems as discussed elsewhere in this forum. If I cleaned the chopper screen, it would be good for 3-5 loads and then start again. This happened a few times.
I next replaced the check valve - this time it worked well for approx 15 loads of dishes and now the problem is coming back again. Right before the problem reoccured this last time, it was making an unusal grumbly noise as it ran. Not loud, but noticable. I hate to replace the pump/motor if not necessary. Would appreciate any help you can offer. thank - Jon |

Hi Jon.
Yea, unfortunately it sounds like you will need to replace the motor assembly, or the complete sump/motor assembly(easier, but more costly, but recommended more). Whats the complete model# of your dishwasher? Its located inside your dishwasher on the upper tub wall. I'll get you the cheapest price for both. Jake

Your probably going to have to remove the wash motor assembly itself, to see if something is lodged in there. Start reading at Page#20 here: https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/52521bdbd0ef763c85256cbc00520548/$FILE/8178022.pdf It will show you how to remove the pump and sump assembly, then the wash motor. Here's the cheapest price I found on your wash motor assembly, if you need to order it: Manufacturer's Number: 8534942 Here's the sump assembly for your model: Manufacturer's Number: 8535150 Jake

Thanks Jake. Just pulled it partially apart and the chopper screen is packed with food particles again.
Added: I tried to remove the bolt holding on the motor and shield, but can get a tool all the way back under the shield to reach the bolt. I just ordered the complete sump assembly. I figure I will still need to remove that bolt - any suggestions? thanks - Jon Last edited by jon_roanoke; September 3rd, 2008 at 10:13 AM.. Reason: update |

No, with the complete sump assembly, everything is completely assembled. So you shouldn't have to worry about that bolt.

Well I got the sump/pump replaced, but now I have a leak on the side of the tub. Water is seeping out from behind the water inlet assembly. I disconnected it and reseated the gasket, but still it leaks. Help Please!

I continued to monkey with the inlet gasket. What finally worked was flipping it inside out. It must be worn on the outside.
Just finished running a cycle and no leaks. Now I'll try with the dishes. |
