Default Hairy Ice on Door When Ice maker Running

We have a whirlpool side by side fridge/freezer.
It is about 1.5 years old. Model ED5RHEXNL03.

The ice maker does make ice OK.

Where the ice comes out of the ice dispenser thru the door a large amount of "hairy ice" builds. It gets worse the longer we let the ice maker run. The hole in the bottom of the dispenser where it comes out eventually gets clogged along with the chute in the door where the ice falls out.

When we lift the arm to stop ice being made, no more hairy ice is formed.

Any help appreciated.

Hi,

Ok, I've been in the appliance repair business over 20 years and never once had a complaint of hairy ice.

Only thing that comes to my mind right now is pets, do you have dogs or cats?

Check for a clogged condenser thats clogged with lint/pet hair full in the condenser which is located on the bottom of your refrigerator behind the front bottom kickplate grill. Just open both refrigerator and freezer doors, then pull that kickplate grill off, PULL HARD it just unsnaps.

Now i don't know how hair from the condenser would get in the ice, but we need to start some where, because this is a NEW one for me too.

Jake
