Default GU1500XTLS1 dirty dishes on upper rack and residue on all dishes

Hello,
I have a Whirlpool GU1500XTLS1 that came with our house, so it’s at least 4 years plus, no documentation from the previous homeowners so not sure exactly how old it is. It was running like a champ when we moved in. About a year ago it started leaving the top rack dirty and not draining completely. We called a repairman and he found a little rubber foot from something got stuck in the drain line, he removed it and it was good as new. About 6 months later it started not cleaning the top rack but drain completely. It’s still doing it now and it's what I need help with. The dishes on the top rack are not all getting clean, and there is some residue on all the dishes, top bottom and silverware. We called the repairman back three times but on the last one he basically threw in the towel so now I’m on my own. I’ve been reading this forum, found many issues with this model or similar issues with other models and started cleaning/inspecting/replacing things. So far I have replaced the following:

Pump and motor assembly, complete
Middle spray arm

Dishwasher drain pump
Pressure switch/soil sensor

Ran several runs with some white vinegar, inspected all the drain hoses but I’m still having the issues.

The slight residue sounds like maybe the rinse aid isn’t being dispensed properly, is there a way to test this? Should I look to replace the dispenser and rinse aid sensor? Also I see people talking about it but how do you recommend testing that the middle spray arm has good water pressure and is spinning?

I read in another post that someone with hard water replaced the supply line and that helped, I certainly have hard water but we use a whole house water softener, but wouldn’t that just make the dishwasher fill slower and not affect the strength of the washing once filled?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
-Ken

Hi Ken,

Did you read this on the middle spray arm issue?:
http://adcxns1.whirlpool.com/Service...LE/8178191.PDF

Its says you need to order a new middle spray arm Part#8269024

Did you replace the middle spray arm with this one?

What was the part# of the middle spray arm you replaced?

Also after it fills with water, open the door and see how far your water level is, it should be about an inch under the heating element.

No, don't replace that yet.

Also try this:
Glisten
Its really good to use to clean out your dishwasher.

Hi Jake,
Yup that's the tech bulletin I found somewhere on this site, I don't recall which post exactly, and I ordered 8269024, and I double checked and 8269024 is stamped on the middle swing arm. The doc specifies the corners being the biggest trouble spot but it doesn't seem to matter for me where stuff is at in the upper rack.

When I start the dishwasher and let it fill, the water is very close to the heater element, I would say less than an inch below but still below.

I will try the Glisten, but it will take a few days to get here. Should I bother looking in local grocery stores?

No, I don't think grocery stores sell it.

Yes, if the Glisten doesn't work, I'm not sure what the problem could be since you already replaced the motor/sump assembly.

Check the temp. of your water in the dishwasher tub after it firsts goes in, to make sure its hot, should be about 120-130 degrees.

Yeah the water is plenty hot, the supply is from my kitchen sink hot water supply line so I've even let the water run from the faucet until it's up to full temperature before starting the dishwasher with no difference. Thanks for the help, I'll give glisten a shot but it sounds like I'm back to replacing parts.

Well, I really don't know what other parts you can replace to solve this issue, you've changed about everything there is that deals with this issue.

Did you purchase all the parts from our links and banners on our site here? If so, you have 30 days to return the parts for a full refund, then you can go buy a new Maytag dishwasher.
