Default Whirlpool Gold GU2300XTLS1 dishwasher

Whirlpool dishwasher when set to "normal" water fills into machine - inlet valve voltage 120V - and water heard entering machine. Water level just below heating element - sensing and washing lights are on. Dishwasher "hums" then stops after 3 or 4 minutes with now wash cycle started. Can cancel cycle, and water drains. Dishwasher is about 5 years old.

Hi,

Something may be jammed in your chopper screen or motor impeller, or your motor is out.

Here's the repair manual for your model:
https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/52521bdbd0ef763c85256cbc00520548/$FILE/8178022.pdf

Page 17 Read 1-4 where it says this:

SERVICING COMPONENTS INSIDE THE WASH TUB
Removing the Inner Feed Tube and
Lower Spray Arm

Then on Page 21 it starts to get into detail of how to access the rest where it says this:
Accessing Components of the Sump Assembly

It shows how to get access to the chopper screen and check valve.

Here's the chopper assembly for your model, in case you need to order it:
Chopper Part#8268383

If that checks ok, then you would need to go further and check your motor.

Here's the sump/motor assembly for your model:
Part#8535150

Here's the motor alone:
Part#8534942

Thanks for teh quick reply - I ended up removing the main motor -the center shaft doesn't turn at all. I am guessing this means it is completely seized up - and the motor needs replacing ??

Yup, you'll need a new motor or the sump/motor assembly.
