Default ed5nhgxmq00 - Ice Collecting in Refrigerator & Freezer

Hello.

I am requesting assistance for the following two issues:

1. Frequently, I need to clear the ice that forms in a vent that is on the left wall and two-thirds down from the top. I have found that when the ice forms in this area, the refrigerator does not remain cool. Once cleaned, the refrigerator works better. What do I need to do to either eliminate or mitigate the need for this activity?

2. Constantly, there is ice forming at the bottom of the freezer below the bottom tray. I see no leaks or areas where water could originate. What do I need to do to prevent this from occurring.

Thank you in advance for any information you can provide.

Hi,

It sounds like you have an air leak causing this to happen, warm kitchen air that can leak in goes to the coldest air in your refrigerator, which would be that air duct on the top left side from your freezer. Check your door gasket, this link here shows you what a bad door gasket is:
http://www.applianceaid.com/frig-doors.html#gasket

Or if you do alot of cooking and put warm/hot items in your refrigerator from the range/oven, that will cause it as well.

Thank you, Jake, for responding.

Though I checked the door gaskets, I should have known that I did not need to check them because sometime I cannot open the freezer door or the refrigerator door because the seal is so tight. Sometime the seal is to tight I need to apply leverage to get the door open. The door gaskets have no tears, breaks, or holes. Additionally, no portion of the door gaskets felt weak unusually thin and the door areas which create the seal have no breaks, no unusual marks, and no rust

I hope this information is helpful. I am up to the next test.

One other thing to check is inside your refrigerator section on the middle left side wall you will see a louver#4 here:

Take that louver off, it just unsnaps and see if in that air tunnel is clogged with ice.

I am grateful for the reply, Jake.

Yes, there was ice blocking the vent. Please see my initial posting about my experience with this vent.

Thanks.

Ok, I'm not sure what else is causing it without looking at it myself, you'll probably need to have a Whirlpool tech. come out to see whats going on.
