Default [FIXED] Ice maker don't stop making ice when off

I have GD25DIXHS00 model 8 years old side by side whirlpool refrigerator. The ice maker keep making ice and over flowing container even when the ice maker dial is switched to off position. Also icicle hangs from the icemaker and on the freezer side wall under the ice maker(seems to be frozen water dripping from ice maker). Please help! Thanks

Hi,

You'll need a new ice maker.

Complete icemaker assembly (8 cube) - This icemaker is for 25-27 cubic feet models that have vertical auger dispenser installed in the freezer door. 8 cube icemaker.
Complete icemaker assembly

Manufacturer's Part#: 2198597

Here's the instructions TO change the ice maker assembly:

1. Remove the bucket from the door to get some room.

2. Put a piece of tape on the sensor flapper to hold it down so you won't damage it while removing the ice maker.

3. Remove the ice maker service cover door by spreading the two hinge fingers apart away from the center and the door should lift out of the slot.

4. Remove the screw in the right rear bottom side of the ice maker.

5. After removing the screw that cover should lift up from the rear and just work it out from the rear and you see the electrical harness.

6. On the left track the should be a tab toward the bottom which you need to push up.

7. Push up tab and start working the ice maker towards you pulling it out of the track.

8. Careful with the electrical harness in the back as you're pulling out.

9. Disconnect the electrical plug by lifting the clip on the plug.

10. Remove the side cover on the side module by pulling off.

11. Remove the bottom shield by removing the 3 screws on the bottom.

12. To install reverse the order as it came out.

Hi Jake,
Thanks very much for the info. I was wondering : if the sensor which stops the water in the ice maker you recommended to replace? For this modle the on and off switch and sensor is on the right side of freezer wall, do I need the change this part as well since it seems the switch and sensor on that switch when turned to Off position does not shut the ice maker off and there is execess water that freezez on reezer cabinet walls and ice maker? Thanks again.

No, that sensor thats on the freezer walls is just for the Ice level in your Ice bucket, to stop the ice from overflowing the bucket that sits on your inside freezer door.

Your ice maker itself controls the water flow to your ice maker.

Oh, wait, then you have 2 problems then.

Then yes, if thats the case, you would need a new sensor optics kit as well.

Here's the cheapest price I found for your optics kit:
Manufacturer's Number: 4389102

4389102

Thanks a lot Jake! I am going to start with replacing the sensor I think that might be the main issue and then if that doesn't solve all the problem I will replace the ice maker as well. Regards, PJ
