Default GU1500XTLS2 not draining

Hi, new to the forum. I have a Whirlpool Gold GU1500XTLS2 dishwasher that is in a rental home and was previously not working. I mention that it's in a rental home because I really don't know the history of it's operation, only that when we went to renovate the home the dishwasher did not work. Upon pressing any of the buttons on the control panel, the "rinse only" and "air dry" lights would blink, and the "control lock" light would intermittently blink also, but no action. The washer would not go into any cycle. I read in this forum about a similar problem that was rectified by disconnecting the ribbon cable in the control panel and reconnecting it. I tried this and had some success. It now would go through an entire "rinse only" and "normal" cycle, but some of the other options like "anti bacterial", "pots and pans", and "china crystal" were unresponsive when I pressed these options. Likewise with "soak and scour", "sani rinse" and "hi-temp scour". Finally, at the end of the wash cycle, the water didn't drain. It just sat in the bottom of the dishwasher.

It appears that possibly some debris from the renovations had gotten into the dishwasher somehow, as the inside was quite dirty. I've read in some other areas of this forum that the pump may by clogged when the water doesn't drain.

I would like to avoid a service call if possible to rectify this problem, but the combination of several options not working and the drainage problem would dictate that this may be a bit out of my realm. Any advise would be appreciated, thanks.

Hi,

It would be the control panel thats bad.

Here's the control panel for your model you can order:
Manufacturer's Number: 8534839

8534839

Is yours black in color?

Now will it drain if you press the cancel button?

Hi Jake, thanks for the reply. To answer your question, no the dishwasher doesn't drain upon pushing "cancel". And yes, my control panel is black. Is the part # you gave me black? Any advise on the draining problem?

Thanks, John.

Yes, thats the correct control panel for your model you can order that I posted above.

Now when you run it through the wash cycles will it drain all the wash cycles except the last rinse cycle?

Default GU1500XTLS2 doesn't drain

Hi Jake, well I'm not sure how I'd know if it was draining all the other cycles unless I opened the dishwasher door at the end of one of the cycles, which I did not. I ran it through a few complete cycles and when the "clean" light was lit, I opened the door and found water at the bottom there. So, does that mean it's draining all the others except the last rinse cycle?

-Thanks

After it finishes washing, the wash motor should stop, then the drain motor should come on, and you should hear water running into your garbage disposal or in your sink, depending on were your drain hose attach's underneath your sink.

Is the water clean or dirty by the time the dishwasher cycle is over at the end?

You'll likely need to check your chopper screen.

Here's the repair manual for your model:
https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/52521bdbd0ef763c85256cbc00520548/$FILE/8178022.pdf

Page 17 Read 1-4 where it says this:

SERVICING COMPONENTS INSIDE THE WASH TUB
Removing the Inner Feed Tube and
Lower Spray Arm

Then on Page 21 it starts to get into detail of how to access the rest where it says this:
Accessing Components of the Sump Assembly

It shows how to get access to the chopper screen.

Thanks Jake, you're incredibly thorough! This seems like a rabbit hole that I think I'd like to avoid though. Provided I replace the control panel myself, can you give me an idea of how much it would cost to have a service repairman diagnose and fix this draining issue? I know that it would be predicated on many things, but just a general range?

I'd say about $120-$175 but thats not including the control panel, you can add another $150 to that for it.

If its just a rental home, may be cheaper to just get a basic bottom of the line dishwasher from Lowe's, Home Depot, Best Buy, or Sears. They start at $199.

Default New GU1500XTLS2 Control Panel unresponsive

Hi Jake, I went ahead a purchased the new control panel from the link you provided. Installed it and it's acting like it was initially, which was that the "control lock" light is on, and depressing any other buttons does nothing. Prior to purchasing the new control panel, I was able to reset the old one by disconnecting and reconnecting the ribbon cable and it produced some marginal results at least (allowing me to use the "quick wash" and "rinse only" cycles), but this new control panel isn't allowing me to do anything. Did I miss a step somewhere? I'm planning on having a technician come out to deal with the draining problem I'm also having, but I was hoping that I could at least get the control panel issue taken care of beforehand. Thanks!

Thats odd, I've changed the control panel on others and its always fixed them, recheck everything you did.

You may have a more technical issue that only a tech. thats at your house can diagnose.
