Default [FIXED] DU943PWKQ0 (Whirlpool Quiet Partner II)- impeller stuck

Hi All,
I have minimal experience with dishwashers, in my rental home, the above appliance started making a grating, grinding noise one day. It seemed to still complete the cycle and drain properly. When I restarted the machine without any dishes or any soap, it leaked some through the front door and seemed to have a higher water level than normal. It again drained properly when I stopped the cycle. I then tried to take part the unit and see if there are any particles, I cannot get beyond the screw and impeller shown in the pic. I have tried rust oil to get that screw to loosen, but it wont budge. Now the hexagonal part is disntegrating because of excess torque and I am worried I will damage the motor. I have heard that stuck impellers is not uncommon, what should I try next ?
Thanks much
-Seattle1100

Hi,

Here's the impeller kit for your model:
Manufacturer part number 675806 is RepairClinic item number 679717
675806

The hardest part is getting the impeller screw out.

Jeff explains here how to do it:

Thanks Jake, what would you recommend doing if nothing will get the impeller screw lose - is there a way to crack open the impeller itself without damaging the motor below, or would be better to use a screw extractor tool ?

You can try a screw extractor tool, thats much better than accidentally damaging the motor.

I had a couple that I tried everything to remove the screw and nothing worked, so the only other option was to just replace the complete motor/pump assembly, its more expensive, but thats basically the only solution.

Here's the pump/motor assembly for your model:
Manufacturer's Number: 8193513A

Update: After spending several hours of chiselling, the impeller and chopper were dismantled piece by piece. The screw was loosened from the motor with a wrench and all parts replaced per your suggestion. It seems to be working fine so far ( no grinding noise), cleaning and draining well, but I am wondering if it is slightly noisier than before. Thanks for your helpful suggestions, I will update if there are any further problem.

Good job, yes, sounds like you got it, the noisier sound may be just the dishwasher with plenty of more power to run through the spray arms, cleaning normally.
