Default Whirlpool GD5PHAXMS10 IR Icemaker problem

The LED goes solid if I move the door to clear a path for IR. Blicks twice with 1 sec delay if I don't.

No ice.

What can the problem be?

Thanks
Bob

Hi Bob,

What position are the ejector blades in? Pointing at you from the front or slightly above you? Also feel inside your ice maker tray, is there any ice or water in it?

Default Ice Maker

The blades are pointing toward me. There is very little water in bin.
This has happened before and I jiggled some parts around near the blades and it worked. But this time, no go.

What does it sound like?

Ok Bob,

You mean the flapper door on the left inside wall of your freezer?

Does your water pressure seem to have slowed to your water dispenser?

I would make sure your black rubber fill tube that puts water in it from the freezer ceiling is not clogged with ice, sometimes you can't see the ice blockage up in there, use a turkey baster and shoot hot water in there, then get something to run up in that fill tube, a small Phillips screwdriver perhaps, or
I use a evaporator cooler spider snake:
http://www.azpartsmaster.com/Products/Cooler-Spider-Snake__CLR4690.aspx

They are used basically in Arizona to clean out the water pump tubes that run to the cooler pads, as you know.

I don't know if they would sell them in your area, but if you go to your local hardware store, they should have something similar to run up your black rubber fill tube.

You can get better access to that black rubber fill tube by removing your ice maker first:
Here's the instructions TO remove the ice maker assembly:

1. Remove the bucket from the door to get some room.

2. Put a piece of tape on the sensor flapper to hold it down so you won't damage it while removing the ice maker.

3. Remove the ice maker service cover door by spreading the two hinge fingers apart away from the center and the door should lift out of the slot.

4. Remove the screw in the right rear bottom side of the ice maker.

5. After removing the screw that cover should lift up from the rear and just work it out from the rear and you see the electrical harness.

6. On the left track the should be a tab toward the bottom which you need to push up.

7. Push up tab and start working the ice maker towards you pulling it out of the track.

8. Careful with the electrical harness in the back as you're pulling out.

9. Disconnect the electrical plug by lifting the clip on the plug.

10. Remove the side cover on the side module by pulling off.

11. Remove the bottom shield by removing the 3 screws on the bottom.

12. To install reverse the order as it came out.

Report back what you find, then we will go from there.

Jake

Default Icemaker

Jake - before I could do the things you asked, I discovered hat the LED was flashing twce and the a 1 sec delay whetehr the opening in the door was covered or not. I first pulled te power plug for the frig and left it out for 20 seconds thinking that if I rebooted the unit it might correct the failure mode. It did nt but he LED starting flashing twice and then a 1 sec delay.

Does this mean the boards are both bad?

Yes Bob, possibly, is the LED not steady ON at all? Even with the diagnostics I outlined here:
[FIXED] Kenmore & Whirlpool Ice Maker LED Blinking Codes & Online I/M In-Door Repair Manual

If thats the case, by all means order the optics board kit, comes with both boards.

In fact I found a cheaper price for the optics kit than on the original thread I posted, here it is:
Manufacturer's Number: 4389102

Default Ice makre continues

Jake - I recd the parts and installed them and it is still not working. Same flashing LED.

I had the entire unit out as well but don't know what to do with it once it is out. Is there something to be done to the unit when it is out?

The locking tabs on these boards are CRAPPY. They break off.

Bob

No, just reinstall the ice maker assembly back in place.

Give it time to start cycling, it wouldn't cycle right away.

Default Still not working

Jake - the unit has never recovered after re-installing the ice maker into the unit. New boards installed, LEDs still doing the 2 blinks and 1 second delay. It is like nothing has changed. Since the new boards have not made a differernce, what could the problem be?

Frozen water in tube?
Anything else?

Buying ice at the store now. Every frig I have ever owned had a faulty ice maker from 2-4 years into ownership. What gives?

Bob

Ok Bob,

Then, it sounds like your ice maker module is bad. You can order the module itself or the complete ice maker assembly.

You can return the optics kit back for a full refund on that.

Here's the ice maker module kit for your model:
Manufacturer's Number: 8201515

Complete icemaker assembly
