Hi. We have a Whirlpool Gas Oven purchased at Ikea when we re-did our kitchen. The Model # is IGS385RS1. Yesterday when the kids went to make pizzas, the oven did not ignite and so the pizzas were not very good.
The stovetop burners are working with no issue. What is the first step to diagnosing this problem for the novice, or should we call the Whirlpool Repair person? Thanks for your help. |

Hi,
On this model you have a spark type oven igniter, did you hear it spark at all when you turned the oven on? Here's a troubleshooting help guild, read at the bottom of it, there's a very good flow chart as well: http://www.applianceblog.com/manuals/DSI_manual.pdf Jake

Hi. Thanks for your prompt response. When you turn on the BAKE function, the sparker clicks 4 times, trying to light the gas. Then it stops, presumably because it thinks the gas is lit. Is there a pilot light that should be on?
According to the flowchart, if the flame burner cannot establish a flame, where should check if "120 VAC is present from J1-4 to J1-6". to which I say - Huh? ![]() Any advice appreciated. Thanks. |

No, on this model there isn't a pilot light.
J1-4 to J1-6 is the connections on the DSI board(spark module)#5 here, just remove your back console panel#8 to get to it: ![]() Here's the cheapest price I found for your DSI board for on model, in case its bad: Manufacturer's Number: 9758080 Jake

Thanks for your prompt response. My wife was looking at the manual and it turns out that if the system has a malfunction it can "lock out" the board without putting a lock out sign on the screen. Sure enough, she did the re-set and now the oven is working. I'm not sure if this is a sign the the board in the unit is beginning to fail, but so far so good.
Thanks for your detailed instructions--they were very helpful. Hopefully we won't have to come back for more advice! |
