Default Intermittent problems with Quiet Partner I

I'm having problems with my Quiet Partner I, Model DU920PWKQ0.

When I start it on normal wash, The solenoid opens and the dishwasher fills. It the washes for 1 to 2 minutes and stops. I can here the timer motor still running, so the power is good. When it gets to rinse, it doesn't drain, but sometimes the motor runs and rinses with the soapy water, but again just for a minute or two, then nothing but the timer motor running.

I've tried different settings like pot&pans, with the same results. Once in a while it will just start washing for a minute, then stop. A few minutes ago I but it on the rinse only cycle and it didn't rinse, but it did drain.

I opened the door panel hoping to find a loose connection, but everything looked fine. I also opened the bottom plate without finding any problems.

I'm thinking the main controller is bad? Or maybe the motor? Any advice or help will be appreciated.

Sounds like possibly your motor is starting to go bad. But its about $200, and this is a 2001 model dishwasher.

Here's the motor/pump assembly for your model:
Manufacturer part number 8193511A is RepairClinic item number 1065702

Thanks, Jake. I guess my next questions are just for reassurance.

How confident are you that this is the problem?

Is this a part that an average homeowner like me can easily replace? I'm an electrician, so I've got the tools, but I don't usually go inside appliances.

And in your opinion, is it worth it? What is the lifetime of a Whirlpool dishwasher? I'd hate to spend $200 and something else go wrong. As you pointed out, it's a 2001 model, and a new one is probably three to four hundred dollars.

I'm tending toward fixing it, but I'd appreciate your opinion. Thanks.

And is it possible there is a problem that can be fixed without replacement? Can something get into the assembly and get stuck? A glass had broken in the dishwasher a while back. Thanks again.

Usually if glass or seeds get in the pump, you will hear a grinding sound when its washing, or the motor will just hum and not come on at all, so if yours doesn't make any grinding sounds and the motor is washing then cuts off 2 minutes later, then its likely the motor/pump assembly is going bad by overheating and shutting down, I've seen this happen many times on this model, and a new motor/pump assembly always fixes it on the ones I've done.

But yes the cost for the motor/pump assembly is about half the price of a new dishwasher, so with yours being almost 9 years old, its best to just save your repair money for a new dishwasher. Average life for dishwashers now is about 8-10 years.
