Default Whirlpool Gold GS6NBEXRS01 is not cooling

Hi Jake,

I am in Toronto, Canada.
I have a Whirlpool Gold GS6NBEXRS01, got it as a gift three years ago. A month ago, the cool in both compartment went down and stopped making ice and I called a local tech. He checked and said the freon gas leaked and he filled it up, cost me $100. The fridge started working. He checked for leak at the back and in the freezer compartment and he couldn't find anything. He said it may be inside the panel. When he filled the gas, he explicitly told me it may or may not last for too long. I took the risk and decided to fill in anyways. Now after exactly one month the fridge is acting the same, stopped making ice and the both compartments are not cool enough. We have pretty much move even the milk to the freezer now as the temp there is not at freezing. Anyways, I am in a position to make a decision as I need the fridge asap. Do you think it is a scrap now? I want to take your opinion before I scrap this. Do you think it is a gas leak internal to the system or is there anything else I can check?

- I put my hand on the compressor and it is warm and I can feel that it vibrates
- I removed the relay and shook it. Hearing a little rattling noise, but not sure if that means the relay is dead. The noise is like from a spring or something. Is it the correct symptom of a bad relay? If it is a bad relay, why would the fridge work when the tech filled the gas a month ago?
- I called Wirlpool and they said it is out of warranty, even for the sealed system. But willing to give me 15% refund if I buy a Whirlpool, Kitchenaid or Maytag brand.
- If I am to buy a new one, I am looking for a french door fridge. What do you think about Kitchenaid KBFS25EVMS? Or is there any other brand better than this that you would recommend?

Please let me know asap....with the kids, it has been difficult to live with a dying fridge.

Thanks for your help!

Yes, sounds like a freon leak in your sealed system, its best to take advantage of the 15% refund offer from Whirlpool.

The KitchenAid one is very good, thats what I would get.

Thanks Jake! I also noticed that if I unplug and plug it back, it takes couple of seconds to get the fridge running. I think it is normal, right?

I will go ahead with the KA model. Too bad I have to scrap this fridge...

Jake,

What is your opnion on LG LFC25770S? I am now debating between the Kitchenaid KBFS25EVMS and this LG model. I would like to hear your expert advice on it before I make a move. I am more concerned about reliability.

Unfortunately, I know nothing about the LG models, never worked on those before, but I know from other members here if you ever need Warranty work done on it, its extremely hard to find servicer's for it, and parts take a long time to order.

I'd go with the KitchenAid if I was you.
