hmmm, methinks I will just buy a used dishwasher on craig's list now. It sucks trashing a whole dishwasher just because it won't drain though.

    PS:

Laundry soap is no good in a dishwasher

    Laundry detergent in the dishwasher?

Don't trash it, flush it with cold water till all the suds are gone.

But then again, In my 20 years of appliance repair I don't think I've come across a case like this with laundry detergent, liquid hand dish washing soap like Palmolive or Joy, yes.

So I'm not quite sure your dishes will ever be safe after its been used with laundry detergent. It may leave permanent toxins in it:

The whole story is that I was cleaning up my rent house where the tenants had left some dirty dishes behind. So, the only thing I had on hand was so laundry soap ... I figured to get rid of the grossness and rewash them again later with the right soap.

Anyways, since the water doesn't drain either, it's an easy decision to trash it. Actually I did buy another used dishwasher for $8 already. I'm going to test it out this weekend, but it looks like the same model, so I might even be able to swap parts if I need to. It will be a pretty good deal if that works!!

Thanks for the link about the laundry soap Jake ... I definitely won't do that again

lol .. it works. I love Craig's list. Well, so far the flap over the soap for the main cycle doesn't open, but I don't mind manually adding detergent a few minutes after I start it.

main thing is it gets the dishes clean and drains.

actually, the one I had in there may still be good. I cleared a big clog from the drain hose after I pulled that dishwasher. I cycled it while I had it sitting on the back porch, and it did exhaust w/ pressure ... still a little funny acting but may have been 'cause I didn't have everything totally hooked up. Anyway, I'll keep it for a spare for now.
