4 year old quiet partner II Dishwasher won't drain. After most recent cycle, opened to find dirty dishes and tub full of water. When I press Cancel to initiate draining, all I hear is a low pitched hum, but no draining. I vacuumed out the water and accessed the chopper blade. The chopper blade turns freely enough and I did not find anything jamming up the works down there. I put everything back together and started a fresh cycle. Tub fills and I can hear water spraying the same as always, but again, when I hit cancel to initiate a drain, all I get is a low pitch hum. Your help in investigating is greatly appreciated.
I pulled the drain pump off and found the impeller had come off the pump shaft. I pushed it back on and was unable to pull it off again, so it seems as though its on nice and tight. we'll see how long it stays on. Should I expect it to come off again? If it does come off again, I'll just replace the pump.
Thanks for your help, I just filled the tub and hit cancel to initiate a drain and it drained beautifully. You just saved me a load of cash... Thank you!
Jake, since last post, I've had to replace the drain pump as the impeller continued to come off. Now the Main circulation pump is sounding bad when it's running. Sounds very loud, like a dry bearing. I pulled the main pump off and the impeller assembly is pretty hard to turn by hand, so I'm fairly confident it needs to be replaced. Dishes haven't been getting very clean as of late, I'm guessing this failing pump could be contributing. Do I understand your return policy correctly, that if I order your pump and find my dishes still aren't getting clean, I can return the part for a full refund?
I'm at a point now where I don't know if it would be better to just buy a new machine and ditch the whirlpool. I'm willing to to replace the pump with a money back guarantee, but by golly, I think this will be the last part I replace on this machine...
whadya think? Should I give this whirlpool one more chance? think the pump will bring it back to life? Any advantage to replacing the entire sump assy over just the motor?

Yes Mark, Thats exactly correct.

Yes, since its not that old, I'd fix it, not replace it. Yes it will be like new again.
Yes, getting the complete assembly is much better than just the motor alone.
Thanks, Jake. Just so I know what I'll be getting in the mail... does the sump assy contain a new check valve and chopper assy along with the circ pump? just wondering if I should replace those while I'm at it. They both look to be in good shape but if they come preinstalled on a new sump assy all the better.
Thanks for your advice on this machine. I will say this about the Whirlpool, it's a pretty easy machine to work on, once you know what's what and where everything is located. Your website makes identifying and troubleshooting a snap!
I'll bring this one back up since I have "almost" the exact same problem with the exact same dishwasher, with one small difference.
My Whirlpool Quiet Partner II also does not drain, and the pump does hum loudly when attempting to drain. But when I pop off my drain pump, leaving it wired up, it seems to work like a champ. The impeller spins, doesn't sound funny, and even when I try to hold back the impeller blades with a screwdriver, it bangs right through and spins away. I've blown through the end of the drain by our kitchen sink to verify that there isn't a blockage anywhere in the drain line, and the dishwasher sump does drain through past the drain pump, so that isn't blocked.
Is there a check valve somewhere that could be sticking? I've stuck my finger inside of the drain pump housing (after removing the drain pump), and I can feel a rubber check valve of some sort in there. It seems to move around freely. Not sure why else this woudln't drain. Maybe it is just the drain pump, but that impeller sure does feel strong when it cycles on. Thanks for any help.
