Default Whirlpool GU2400XTPB7 does not complete cycle

    Model Number: GU2400XTPB7
    Brand: Whirlpool
    Age: 1-5 years

Our Whirlpool dishwasher does not complete the cycle. It gets to the "44 minutes remaining" point and gets stuck there. I saw on another thread that I might fix it by resetting. Would resetting help and how do I do it?

    Thanks

The hi-limit thermostat part# 661566 is about the size of a dime, held to the bottom of the tub with a metal bracket. You'll see it, it has two wires on it. Here's how to check it. Take the two wires off, then get your ohm meter and ohm it for continuity, it should read 0-1 ohm.

If you don't have an ohm meter, you can Take the two wires off and jump them together. See if it goes through the cycle. If it does then replace the thermostat part# 661566. Turn your beaker off to the dishwasher first before jumping it.

    Its #18 part# 661566 here:

Can that thermostat be seen and removed without taking the dishwasher out? I have the bottom cover off but I haven't found that thermostat yet.

Yes, don't pull the dishwasher out, look at the bottom of the tub in front you will see it, get a flashlight.

I found something that looks like the thermostat with a blue and a pink wire attached but I can't get it to come out. Do you think I'm looking at the right part and what do I need to do to remove it?

I removed the two wires from a part that looked like the hi limit thermostat and checked it with an ohm meter. I got 0 ohms. If that means the thermostat is OK, what should I check next.

Yes, thats it, ok, then thats fine.

Does the heating element work in the dry cycle? Dishes get dry with no problems?

If so your heating element is good, that just leaves the control board as the culprit.

Here's the control board for this model you can order here:
Manufacturer part number W10084141 is RepairClinic item number 1373167
    W10084141

Here's the video to access/change it:

I think the heating element is OK because the dishes are dry. Before I buy the control board could you tell me the buttons I need to push to reset the control. I saw that other people have had success doing the reset.

Even though the hi-limit thermostat ohmed out OK, I jumpered it out and ran a "glass x-press" cycle and the dishwasher completed that cycle. When we get more dirty dishes we will run a "normal" cycle and if it completes, I'll buy a new hi-limit thermostat. Jake, thanks for all your help. I'll let you know what happens.

Ok, yup that sounds like the problem then.

    The reset/diagnostics is: Heated Dry->Normal->Heated Dry->Normal

Then let it run all the way through.
