Default Super Capacity 465 model SF379LEKQ igniter again?

I have had my Gas Range Super Capacity 465 model SF379LEKQ for about 5 years now. Two years ago the igniter went out on the oven. The symptoms were that it would start fine and then not ignite again in the middle of cooking. Then eventually it would not ignite at all just click a few times. I replaced the igniter and it worked fine for a couple of years until...

NOW. All of the sudden won't ignite at all now. I set the temp and hit Bake and it will just click a few times but not start. I am assuming I need another igniter. My question is why do I keep having to go through these things? Is this normal to have a second one go out on me after only two years?

Also, some places only sell the igniter by itself for a little cheaper. Is it ok to just buy the ignitor, or do I really need to pay twice as much and buy the "kit" that includes the burner... like here...http://www.appliancepartspros.com/part_details.aspx?part_id=3598752

Thanks!

This would be extremely rare if the same part went out again.

Look at page #24 here:

It has a flow chart to help you find what is causing this problem.

hmmm, well. that's a great flow chart.

Thanks for the link. Though I am capable of doing all of that and I have a multimeter, I believe I will find that the igniter needs replaced...again.

Because the broiler works and there is no spark coming from the igniter, but I do hear the 4 clicks.

I found one for 35 dollars so I just ordered it and will just roll the dice and see if this fixes my problem.

Wish I knew what was making them go so quickly though. If 2 years really is quickly for them.

Thanks for your help.

I will come back and post results.

Ok, Sounds good.

Here is bake igniter assembly for this model that others can order as well, its not $35, its $52 but it comes with a full money back return policy that no other appliance parts store can match:
Oven bake burner tube assembly with spark igniter

Here is the same part thats cheaper, and you can pay $11.00 more to get a lifetime part warranty on:
Burner and Igniter Assembly

Jake!

I'm back. It's been almost a year and my bake igniter went out AGAIN!

this is the third time.

I guess I will opt for one with a lifetime warranty now.

But I still would like to know what is causing this thing to go out so often.

I am ordering a bake ignitor for the 3rd time which makes this oven on it's 4th.

Any ideas why this thing is going out so quickly?

Thanks!!

Hi hobiecatter,

Thats very odd it went out again. I'm not sure what keeps making it go out. Have you all had power surges or power outages recently?

How often do you use your oven to bake, once a day, once a week?

No power surges or outages at all any of the times.

We use it probably about twice a week. We even used it the day before it went out for about an hour with no issues.

Thats very odd why it keeps going out.

I remember one in South Texas many years ago that did the same thing, we had like 5 techs. go out and even the manager, and still couldn't find out what was going on, the only thing we could assume was they had high voltage power lines that ran really close to there house that could have been causing it, but we could never confirm it.

just my luck.

I would have a tech come out again, but the first time it happened, he came out and it worked while he was here because it hadn't completely gone out yet.

It is still intermitant this time, but I know it will completely freeze up soon. Then I will just be paying for someone to come out here and tell me I need a new bake igniter, which I already know. It is lasting me an average of a year.

It is becoming more expensive for me to keep this 6 year old stove because I am going throught these things.

My options now are either fix it and sell it, or buy the one with a lifetime warranty for $20 more and keep the unit. Only down side with that is when it goes out again, I have to wait for the shipping to go back and forth, so we will be without an oven during the wait.

Are all of these igniters made the same? I mean are there cheap knockoffs that I might be buying?

With your experience, would you suggest it might be something on the oven, like the circuit board or something that may be making the igniter go out quicker, or would you place the blame on the igniter as the cause?

Thanks!

On the new ranges of today, they use glow bars for the igniter's, much more reliable than spark ignition like yours.

I really don't know why it keeps happening, I would hate to speculate.
