Unhappy Friedrich AC - filter frooze!

Jake,

I started this unit yesterday for the first time this season and in ran okay initially. Today I noticed the compressor never shut off regardless of how warm I set the thermostat.

I then took the inside cover off and found the the filter was frozen!

I had cleaned it with the vacum yesterday before using it.

Now it defrosted and I washed the filter and have it outside drying.

Something tells me though the filter is not the root cause.

Any suggestions before I try it again later?

The model number is KM24L30-A and it's a through the wall unit.

Thanks

Hi,

Was the whole evaporator coil behind the filter frozen too?

Default Frozen filter

Jake, The whole filter was frozen and stuck to the evaporator so it's hard to say. It seemed mainly to be the bottom part. After it defrosted I washed the filter with dish detergent, rinsed it and let it dry after it. Afterwards I put it back and tried it again.

So far so good. Any opinion on what may have caused this?

Thanks

I've seen this happen when the outdoor temp. falls below the room temp..

It can also be caused by poor air circulation through the evaporator coil. You may need to clean your evaporator coil if it keeps happening.

This is good to clean it with:

Smile Washing filter did the trick!

Believe or not washing the filter was the solution. Apparently vacuming is not enough. So if anyone ever encounters a "frozen filter" issue, they should wait for it to defrost , wash it with mild dish detergent, rinse it and let it dry completely before re-installing.
