Hi,

I have Kenmore side-by-side refrigerator with model no. 106.44073600 (Cdn model).

Please refer to the attached picture. There is ice build up underneath the top part of one of the lower crisper drawers.
This crisper drawer is adjacent to what I think is the damper, but there is also a damper at the top of the refrigerator.

Please advise.

Regards,
Gus

Hi Gus, both the freezer and refrigerator sides as still cooling properly?

That looks like condensation thus turning to frost/ice. No air leaks in the door gaskets?

That's your return air duct in your photo, you can also check it for a partial clog.

#4 is your return air duct louver that unsnaps off.

For others following your thread--->Its on the left side wall in your refrigerator section, so you will likely need to remove the middle shelves and lower drawers to access it.

Clear all the ice out and see if that solves it. You can run hot water down and see if it flows out from the bottom vent in the freezer.

You'll need a funnel type device to pour hot water down it, Turn your refrigerator off first.

Open the freezer door before you do that, then as your pouring hot water down the return air duct you will hear it go through in the very back inside on the right side of your freezer section, the hot water will drain through the defrost drain hole in your lower freezer section, you can likely see it as well draining the hot water behind the back panel freezer vents inside the bottom of your freezer in the very back.

Hi Jake,

Yes, the refrigerator and freezer compartments are working fine. I removed the louvre for the return air and there is no blockage.
At first glance it seems to be just condensation as you stated. I will keep an eye on it.
If it happens again, then I will turn off the refrigerator and pour hot water down the return air duct to take notice if the water follows back to the bottom of the freezer.

Gus

Ok Gus, sounds good.:)

Fixed. No more ice build up in the crisp drawer adjacent to the return duct.

Prior to this all happening, there were vegetables beside the return duct, that got frozen. So I removed the frozen vegetables so not to block the duct and shifted over to the right a 10lb bag of carrots.. But then this ice build up started to happen. I don't know if this was the cause, but in the 10lb bag of carrots that were some that were frozen. Maybe the return air was blowing over the frozen carrots and causing the shelf to freeze?
Well after removing the frozen carrots and placing the bag of carrots in the crisper drawer and not on the shelf, there is no more ice build up.

Thanks for your time.

Regards,
Gus

That sounds logical to me too.:)

Glad to hear that Gus.(y)

Thanks for the update!
