Hello,

I have a Kenmore 110.21102012. I'm having a problem where it randomly stops in mid cycle. I've only ever seen this happen in the wash cycle. It will start normally, and at some random point, it just stops and sits there until the next cycle. Nothing I've tried, like pausing and resuming, turning dials, cursing out loud, has worked to resume a cycle once it does this. It does this on different types of wash cycles, like super, heavy duty, doesn't matter. Let me make this clear, it doesn't happen every time, but when it does it sucks because I can't just start a new cycle without the stupid thing draining all the water out. So I waste water, detergent and time.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You guys helped me out with this same washer in 2019. I really appreciate it.

When it stops mid-cycle are any lights on the control panel flashing?

Pull the error codes like I showed you how to do back in 2019 in post #3 here:

Thank you for the reply.

At the times when the wash cycle stops, there are no error codes flashing. It just stops as if it was a normal thing. And it sits there. And sits. And sits. Until the next cycle.

I checked the error codes and found two, but I don't think either is valid.

I got an F5E1, lid switch fault, certainly from when I was messing with it with the lid striker removed from the lid and manually inserted into the sensor. I'm sure I knocked it out at one point or another.
I got an F7E5, shifter fault, probably also from when I was messing with it.

Just in case, I ran through '"test 3a - Drive System - Shifter" as recommended in the guide. I did the manual spin (both low and high) and agitate tests (both low and high) and there were no issues (yes, I manually locked the lid first). I've not seen any issues with shifting between cycles, or issues with any cycle other than the wash cycle.

I should probably reset the codes and see if it records anything next time it happens.

Man, what I wouldn't give to have my old machine back where there was no lid lock, no issues manually shifting between modes AT ANY TIME and none of these long pauses this machine features. I should have fixed that one! If I had only known!

Any ideas?

Again, I would like to thank you for what you do.

Yes, clear those error codes and see if another one comes up when it stops randomly again.

It's been a long time since I updated this thread, but I only just recently took care of this issue.

The washer was throwing code F7E5.

So I replaced the shift actuator then ran a calibration cycle.

It seems to have solved the problem. So far over the course of well over a month, the washer has not stopped mid cycle again.

I will note that the shift actuator I used was the newly redesigned version... a Whirlpool WPW10006355. This part is black in color as opposed to the orange colored old part, W10006355. This new part was far more difficult to install than the old part would have been due to the new design which includes a drip shield around the wiring harness connection. This caused an issue when installing the wire harness as the new part requires you to route the wire into a small slot on the side of the new part, then make a 90 degree turn with less than zero slack on the wires. The wire coming from the washer is far too short to make that connection easily possible. It took a lot of extra time to get just enough slack on the wire to make it work. What a terrible new design. I guess it's amateur hour at whatever's left of Whirlpool.

Thanks for your help and I hope this post helps someone else.

Excellent, glad to hear the new shift actuator fixed it.(y)

Here's the OEM shift actuator for your model, in case others need it too:

Yes, they changed the color on it to black, AppliancePartsPros hasn't updated their photo of it, but RepairClinic has:

That is true. I've replaced many of these as well, and you are correct, they need more slack in the wire harness.

When it comes to needing more slack in wire harness's I agree, but I'll take Whirlpool/Maytag products over any other product on the market still.
