Washer will be running (motor is obviously going, as well as other internals but basket is sitting still). If I open the lid and observe this during the cycle, I can shut the lid again and it will start to spin just fine. Seems to only do this when the washer is in cycle and goes to drain.

The washer is noisy when in the normal wash agitation cycle. Sound like rattling in the transmission or something.

If I open the lid and shut it, and it starts to spin, it will make varying degrees of clunk at the start of the spinning. Almost like something is catching or not catching. Almost like a flywheel and starter with missing teeth - if that makes sense. I can open the lid and press and release the lid switch to observe this.

Dogs in agitator have been replaced and the motor coupler is brand new, as I just put these in thinking they might be the issue. The above mentioned spinning issue still persists.

Your washer uses what is called a 'neutral drive transmission'. What happens is the washer agitates then switches to drain. Once it has drained for a minute or two, it pauses. When it starts up again it then starts spinning... while continuing to drain.

Is the pause occurring after it has drained for 1-2 minutes?

Not sure but I will check tonight!

Ok, so yes there is a pause. It isn't long. Maybe 2 seconds. It does the exact same.thing on both the wash and rinse cycle (the problem). I hear brief pause, and it sounds like it is spinning but it is not. When I open the lid, the drum is not spinning. As soon as I close the lid, it begins to spin. If never opened, it would never spin.

I stand corrected. I did not read the original question thoroughly. Everything seems to be working from what I can tell other than a very noisy (what I assume is a) transmission - only noisy during the agitation wash. After the wash cycle it does drain for about 2 minutes. It then switches into gear and starts the spin cycle. It seems to be working now. I'm not sure what was causing it but we would open the washer at the end of the cycle to find the clothes not spun out.

It seems to have worked correctly for the last 3 or 4 cycles. Not sure what would cause intermittent not spinning, or if it has anything to do with the noise we are hearing from it.
