So my Kenmore elite dryer stopped working last week and gave me an f40 code. I removed the panel and smelled as if the board had a burning smell. I replaced part# W10111616 with part number 3978982 and upon trying to start the dryer; it acted as if it wanted to start but instead made a clicking noise followed by an F2 code. Any ideas?

WPW10111616 is the replacement part for W10111616 and 3978982. That number doesn't change. That control board was designed to replace several other control boards. That doesn't mean they're interchangeable.

The problem is still the board. I don't know if that one is bad or it's just the wrong board. When you input the 3978982 into a parts search field, the number changes to WPW10111616. However, when I look up your model number the only number that comes up is the W10111616. That changes to WPW10111616. The only place I found that part number is on APP site as one of the boards it replaces.

Ok yes that’s what i thought because prior to me installing this board (which is used) i was getting the f40 code which gave me no clicking what so ever... and it smelled burned.... this board clicks and acts as if it wants to start but doesn’t....
Guess I’ll return this board and purchase the exact model (W10111616)
