I've got a Kenmore washer giving an "EL" error code. I can't seem to find reference that code anywhere on the online. I did find an "LE" code saying it was a motor issue. This machine will fill, and agitate. When it comes time to drain, the door lock will click multiple times, and then throw the "EL" code. All buttons except the power button will be unresponsive. When I power it off, it will drain and power down. Also, if I just run a spin cycle it will spin. The door does lock when it spins. Does not seem to be a motor problem. This machine is just over two years old. Any ideas? Thanks for any help.

Added correct model number

Picture of the sticker under the washer lid. This is a stacked washer/dryer combo.

Look for another tag. Kenmore model numbers are all numbers and look like this: XXX.xxxxxxxx

Can you take a picture of the machine console and the whole machine and I'll see if I can match it to it's Whirlpool twin.

Here’s a link to the product page.

Under the troubleshooting section of the manual, it states to call tech support for an “EL” error. I tried calling their support, and they weren’t willing to help over the phone. I usually know my way around washers and dryers fairly well, but this is a head scratcher. Weird that the manual references the “EL” error, but gives no possible cause or solution. Thanks again for the replies.

OK, I found it under whirlpools twin model. EL: This error code will appear if the washer makes 10 unsuccessful attempts to lock the lid or if the lid is detected as open during the wash or spin phase where it must be closed and locked.

Press POWER to turn on the washer. Press and hold CYCLES while pressing START three times. A tone will sound for 1 second to indicate successful entering of the Lid Switch Test. The “Normal” indicator will be lit, and the washer tub will begin to rotate clockwise. If the lid is opened, the tub will stop; if it is closed again, the tub will resume rotation. The tub will not rotate if it contains water. Press POWER to exit the test.

Thank you for this. I will do this today, or tomorrow and report back. Thanks again.

hello! I have been having the same issue however after I run the test as mentioned the issue continues.

EL--->Lid Lock Malfunction
This error code will appear if the washer makes 10 unsuccessful attempts to lock the lid or if the lid is detected as open during the wash or spin phase where it must be closed and locked. Check for interference with lid or lid lock mechanism.

--->See Manual Load Test and Lid Switch Test, page 10

I'm attaching your tech. data sheet below, what Rick said is what the tech. data sheet says to do to test it on page 10, that's all it says.

So its either the lid lock is bad or the control board is bad, not sensing the door is locked.

Here's the lid lock mechanism:
Here's the control board: Control Board W11189137
