Dryer won’t start in normal drying mode. If I move timer back to Air drying cycle and then rotate timer slowly a bit clockwise with start button depressed, the dryer tries to start and then stops.

If I repeat the above process in air mode but rapidly rotate the timer counter clockwise and repeat the process several times, I can get the dryer to stay on. If I then hold the start button with dryer running and quickly rotate clockwise to regular drying cycle, clothes dry just fine. Could this be the motor is wearing out or are there some sort of pulleys supporting the drum that are wearing out and causing too much drag. Dry is over 31 yrs old.

It sounds like your timer contacts have worn out, at 31 years that's typical wear.:)

Here's the timer for your model:

Let us know how it goes.

The timer showed up on Thursday and just got a chance to put it in this morning. It seems to have solved the problem. I wonder if this one will last another 30 yrs.:)

Thanks for the help.
