Old 90 series kenmore dryer only heats at highest setting, temperature control does not seem to work

The temperature only seems to heat on high no matter the setting...cycling thermostat? coil? selector switch? Airflow is not a problem

Hi,

temperature control does not seem to work
Does not *seem* to work??
What are the actual heat temp readings from the different cycles/settings?
Most temp changes are only gonna be 5-10ºF different.

Yeah, there is no temperature difference on any settings. Does it not also include the time that the burner is on and off. Sounds like cycling thermostat. Can anything go wrong with the selector switch? Seems unlikely.

More off would give less heat.

Yeah, there is no temperature difference on any settings.
What where the readings?

Can anything go wrong with the selector switch?
Sure, but most times that I have to change one, it has quit completely.

Ok then, I am at a loss. Why too hot? High temp thermostat. that only cuts juice, Thermistor? That only cuts out fire. What else?

No clothes inside.
Take some temp readings of the heat on and off temps with the venting hooked up and with the vent off of the dryer. ( righ tat the exit if the dryer )
Post the results here.

I will get temp readings. Question: Can the solenoid coil possible contribute? Could it get stuck open? Would that not make the hi limit or thermistor shut down the burner?

Probably not.

Could it get stuck open?
The coil doesn't move. The spring valve inside the gas valve can stick....but both would have to fail at the same time....definitely not common....esp for getting too hot.
