I have a 1940's Westinghouse refrigerator with three wires coming out of the compressor, a red, a black and a yellow. I want to do a test directly to the compressor from the outlet. Do I need to hook the red wire, or can I leave it. It was working when we bought it a few years back but quit working all of a sudden. When it quit working I tapped on the compressor and it started again but only for a short time, then it quit and now only hums. From what I can tell it states it is style #991446, ERWB272207 and it says Model L-6.
