1946-ish westinghouse refrigerator restoration

I am restoring an old westinghouse fridge and freezer combo. They both still work very well, just need cosmetic repairs. Does anyone know what kind of metal the outside is made from? I want to be sure I use the appropriate cleaner.
Also, if anyone has a good paint I should use, I'm open to suggestions!
