Default Kenmore Coldspot Fridge & Freezer NOT COOLING

    Model Number: 106.79202990
    Brand: Sears Kenmore

My fridge & freezer stopped cooling about 2 weeks ago. I have read several posts and this is what I have done so far:

    1. I have taken the freezer back panel apart and the fan was running fine and there was no ice buildup.
    2. I have taken the back panel off at the bottom and cleaned out all the lint. The fan down there was not running until I cleaned everything out.
    3. The condensor is humming when I plug it in. A lot of posts said that it could be the overload and start relay. I replaced both parts and still no cooling.

    Any help is much appreciated!

You mean the compressor(big black ball) was running? But not cooling at all? If thats the case, then you have either a bad compressor or sealed system freon leak or restriction, either way it will cost big money to have a tech. out to fix it.

This model was made in 1998, so it would be best to save the repair money for a new refrigerator. Average life of refrigerators now is only 8-12 years.

Thanks for the quick reply Jake!

When the fridge is plugged in the compressor sounds like it is humming but its quiet. I replaced the start relay about 3 hours ago and it still is not getting cold.

Your advice is to just get a new one?

Right, your compressor is bad, so you can have a tech. come out for $70 and tell you that or you can believe me.
