Hi,
We bought a used Kenmore elite freezer, model #253.28712804.
The door ajar light and alarm keep coming on.
The door gasket is in excellent shape, so we know it's closing properly.
It is holding the temperature just fine.
From reading this forum, we learned that perhaps the problem was the door switch, so we ordered the correct switch and installed it.
The problem persists.
Is it possible to just remove the alarm speaker?
We don't really want to buy a new control panel, especially since we don't know if the problem will persist, even then.
Any advice will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

When you open the door and hold the door switch in with your hand does it do this same behavior?

Ok, got it!

The problem is the display touchpad and control board assembly is the culprit.

Here's another member with this exact same issue:

Here's the display touchpad and control board assembly for your model you can order:

Make sure you unplug the freezer from the wall outlet before you replace it.

Let us know how it goes if you decide to fix it.

I was unable to locate a video to replace it, but from the rear photo of it below, it looks like it has 4 clips, 2 on each side, so that tells me it just unsnaps to remove it, then snaps back in place to install the new one. You may need a putty knife to pry/unsnap it from the freezer door.

Is it possible to just remove the alarm speaker?
No, not that I'm aware of.

Thank you for your reply.
not that I think it's a good idea, but that black circular object top left of the board is a piezo buzzer. if you unsolder that, or push some cotton into the hole.

I've got a similar problem except that my door isn't sealing well - at least not always - and the evaporator freezes up.... I'm afraid that the thermistor has failed but don't know the temp/resistance relationship to test it.

Well, we got a replacement control board and the problem persists.
I'm so discouraged at this point.😓

Then you got a bad replacement control board, that's all it can be. Nothing else would cause this except a bad door switch, and you said that was good.

Where did you buy the replacement control board at? Contact them and have them send another new one.
