Default Kenmore Coldspot 106.70104000 fridge not cooling

    Model Number: 106.70104000
    Brand: Sears Kenmore
    Age: 1-5 years

My above referenced fridge is not cooling. Everthing in the freezer is frozen solid but lower fridge is not as cold. Last year I had the same problem and the repairman said the fan was on the fritz. To save me money he cleaned and lubed the fan and said it should be good for a while. This past Saturday, I totaly disassembled the freezer and found that the ice maker had been leaking behind the wall and there was a lot of ice. I cleared all the ice and the 'vent' to the fridge, cleaned and lubed the fan but the fridge is still not cooling as it should be. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

    Is the fan still working?

The fill tube for the ice-maker comes through the back wall and it would very unusual for it to leak there. Did you remove the back wall and look at the evaporator? Was the evaporator covered with ice or frost? If it was, that wouldn't be from the ice-maker. That would a defrost issue. If the evaporator fan motor is working then a leaking ice-maker wouldn't cause it to stop cooling.

Thanks fo the speedy reply Rick!

The fan wasn't working and then I took the back off and gave it a spin and it started running. Strange huh? Or maybe it just came on right at the same time I began to mess with it? It has been working since Saturday though.

The left side of the evaporator (the side with the ice maker) was covered in ice not frost. I actually saw trails of ice from the fill tube going down the back of the freezer. It was pooling in the back corner around some frozen veggies, under the "bottom tray" for lack of a better word and behind the "wall". I watched it slowly trickle down the back when the tray would fill.

OK Replace the fan motor and that will take care of the cooling issue. The leaking is going to be a problem if it's coming from the part going through the back wall as it's not available as a separate part. It's probably foamed in and might not be that easy to remove it. However, if you can get it out use something like 100% silicone to repair it. Give it enough time to cure and use the 100% silicone to re-seal it back in place.

Thanks so much! I'll order the fan and take a look at the tube assembly. Would a fan on the blink work intermittent as described? Or perhaps not spin fast enought to cool the fridge? Inquiring minds... Thanks again!
