Gas dryer; stopped turning on.
When the "start" dial is turned, an electric motor start sound (almost buzzer, but not a buzzer) makes noise but the dryer drum doesn't turn.

My utterly uneducated guess is that the motor starting capacitor is shot?
I'd appreciate a couple hints of what to test (I have a multimeter and basic electrical and gas skills, including how not to kill myself in general).

Thanks!

Hi,

It sounds like you may have a bad motor.

As a test: Have someone hold the door switch IN, then push the start button and hold it and at the same time turn your drum counter-clockwise, then release the start button and see if it starts turning on its own.

If it starts running, it's definitely your motor that's bad.

Here's the motor for your model you can order:

The motor does run once it's started as you described.
Where is the starting capacitor for this motor - is there one?

There isn't a start capacitor for this motor.

You'll need to order and replace the motor and you'll be back in business.:)

Ok, I'll do that :) Do you know if the switch on the back of it comes with it, so the new motor just plugs in to the wiring connector?

And, if you could satisfy my curiosity - what type of motor is this called? Thanks!

You get the motor and motor switch with the new motor.

so the new motor just plugs in to the wiring connector?
Yuppers, its plug and play.

There is a video in the part link that shows you how to replace it.:)

Its just a dryer motor, no specific other name its called.:)
