Question B22CS50SNS/01 Bosch refrigerator works for a while then stops cooling until it is reset.

    Model Number: B22CS50SNS
    Brand: Bosch
    Age: 1-5 years

It is getting frustrating since I have to keep doing this or my food spoils! What part do I need to replace?

First check for any error codes:

    1) Under “Lock” mode, press “Super Freeze” button 5 times while pressing “Freezer Set” button at the same time.

    2) The front C-LED displays as the right diagram shows ( [Ex.] Time Display of 0003 signifies 3 minutes of power on time.)

    3) Press “Freezer Set” button and the following value is displayed successively.
    ① Time
    ② F-Sensor temperature
    ③ D-Sensor temperature
    ④ R-Sensor temperature
    ⑤ RT-Sensor temperature
⑥ P Factor display (Refer to water supply mode of automatic icemaker)
⑦ Filter remaining time until change

    4) Error is displayed only if there is any ; it is skipped if no error.

Push “Lock” button 1 time to stop

I couldn't find the "freezer set" button but did try holding "select" and "options" for 5 seconds until "L" showed up on the left display and numbers from 0 to 15 cycled on the right of the display. There was no "E" that showed up at any time. Is that the intended diagnostic?

No, be careful what buttons you press. Unlike other refrigerators, Bosch refrigerators have built in programs for changing settings in the MICOM. There are settings for Europe and Asia along with US for the size of the machine, the Voltage and duty cycle for the inverter on the compressor. On other refrigerators if a fan motor is too slow, we replace the fan motor. On some Bosch models the settings can be changed to speed up the motor by changing the resistance in one of the PCB's. If you change any of the factory settings by mistake, you're..uh, an incline plane wrapped helically around an axis....lol.

OK, try this; Unplug the machine for five minutes. Restore power to the machine. The self diagnosis can only be run for the first 10 minutes of power up. Press the “-” and “+” simultaneously for 5 seconds until the displays hows “L0”.

The self-diagnosis program runs as follows,

    L00 – IWD-power ( loads don’t work)
    L01 – IWD heater
    L02 - Valve
    L03 – RC-fan
    L04—FC-fan
    L06—Condenser-fan
    L06—FC-Drain
    L07—IWD frame-Heater
    L08—RC-Defrost
    L09—FC-Defrost
    L0A--Compressor

Switch off the appliance to quit.

If there are any error codes they will display when the self-diagnostic is finished.

No error codes you'll need to explain what you mean by: When it stops cooling you need to "reset". How do you reset it?

Hmm, I tried that but it did not bring up a diagnostic after turning back on and holding the + and - for 5 seconds. The refrigerator fan has been running (I hear noise) but it never gets cold. It has been this way for a few days now. Thank you for the help, any thoughts?

Sometimes you need to hold it longer than 5 seconds, up to 30 seconds. Check and see if the compressor is running. Put your hand on it and feel for a vibration. Compressors normally run warm to very warm. If it's cold it's probably not running. If it's hot to very hot it may have a system problem. How do you reset it?

Hi Rick, the compressor is not running and I tested the resistance on the compressor connection, all are 6.7 ohms. I tried testing the low voltage wires to the inverter board mounted to the compressor and the blue wire tested at 2.4 volts and the brown was .1. After trying to hold + and - for up to a minute still nothing happened.

I've been trying to find a tech sheet for that exact model but I haven't had any luck so far. Up to this point I've been looking at tech sheets for similar models, B20CS50SNS and B22CS80SNS. I would think the only difference between yours and the B20CS50SNS was the cubic feet but I haven't worked on that many Bosch machines to say for sure. This is the only other test mode I could find. If this one doesn't work, the only thing I can tell you is, if the compressor is not running, Check for 120 VAC at the inverter. If the inverter is getting 120 VAC, and the resistance between any two pins on the compressor is around 10 (6.7 is good), the inverter has failed. If there's not 120 VAC at the inverter the most likely cause would would be the power PCB.

The self diagnosis can only be run for the first 10 minutes of power up. Press the “Select” and “Options” simultaneously for 5 seconds until the left displays hows “L0”.

The self-diagnosis program runs as follows,

    L0 – IWD-power
    L1-Valve
    L2- TCD inlet Flap
    L3 – TCD outlet Flap
    L4 – RC-LED
    L5 – FC-LED
    L6—TCD-Fan
    L7—RC-fan
    L8—FC-fan
    L9—Condenser-fan
    L10—FC-Drain
    L11—Flap-Heater
    L12—IWD-Heater
    L13—RC-Defrost
    L14—FC-Defrost
    L15—Compressor

    Error Codes:

E01 RC sensor value is outside the defined range
E02 FC sensor value is outside the defined range
E03 TCD senor value is outside the defined range
E15 Ambient sensor value is outside the defined range

Hi, I've got a similar issue so I've been following this thread to try your advice. Ran the above diagnostic and looks like no error messages. However some of this output looks odd to a layperson. Here's what I got: 03 02 (time); 55 (F); 89 (D); 52 ; 26 (RT); 00 ℗, the last item, #7 for the filter displays two letters, the first is and "L" but the second looks like an E without the top horizontal bar. That's it. So I followed diagnostics below to see what else I could find. Please follow my posts below...
