InSinkerator: Loose Ball Bearings
Brand:
other
Age:
1-5 years
InSinkerator Evolution Select
My disposer began making a loud grinding sound and, upon investigating, I found a loose ball bearing among some remaining food. Nothing else looked to be wrong so I thought one of my kids might have errantly dropped something in. Anyway, things worked fine for a bit but then the same thing happened and I found a second bearing.
Without removing the unit, I cant find anything that looks like a bearing housing?
There doesn't appear to be any other threads specific to this. Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Hi,
Yes, it does have ball bearings in it, and that's what your seeing, the bearing is coming apart and you'll need to replace the bearings or buy a new garbage disposal.
You can see the bearings here: Insinkerator Garbage Disposer Bearing Parts
I've never replaced the bearings on a garbage disposal, so I can't assist you in doing it if you go that route.

Thanks, Jake ... greatly appreciate the confirmation that this looks to be the situation.
My next question would be if someone can advise a resource for the correct process for repairing this unit. Some of the bearings that I'm seeing appear to cost more than a new unit. Also, having never repaired a disposer before, so I'm wondering if its even worth it?
Thanks!

I don't know of anyone here that has done this bearings job before, and I'm unable to locate the instructions to do it. So I'd say it would be much more cost effective to just replace the complete disposal.
Just make sure you get the same horsepower speed when you buy the new one as you have with the old one.
The most common are 1/2, 1/3, and 3/4 horsepower: Garbage Disposals
