    Default WTW5000DW0 Bearings?

    Model Number: WTW5000DW0
    Brand: Whirlpool
    Age: 1-5 years

Our Whirlpool WTW5000DW0 has stopped spinning clothes and completing it's wash cycle. After finding this site I downloaded the tech manual and found error codes indicating the basket speed sensor was bad. I ordered the sensor (shift actuator assy per the Repair Clinic .com site) and a new belt too.

Pkg arrived this AM and I installed new parts. Ran the machine through the calibration mode and tried spinning some wet clothes dry- no joy. I'm hearing a lot of noise as the machine tries to spin and it was worse during the calibration run. To my farmers ear, it sounds like bad bearings to me. There is no roughness or noise when manually spinning the basket by hand. I haven't looked for any error codes yet. What do I look for/do next?

FWIW- This washer has been a nightmare from the start. Our next washer will have a real agitator even I I have to find an old Speed Queen or something!

    Hi,

Does it still agitate fine in the wash cycle?

Can you please make video of the noise your hearing, like this guy did to his WTW5000DW0 in post#2 here: FIXED: WTW5000DW0 Whirlpool washer will not spin/agitate

It "agitates" in a sense. It doesn't have the traditional agitator, it's one of those HE models that uses a cup of water to "wash" a load. So the pump or whatever works and sloshes water around. When it goes to spin there is an unusual noise, sort of sounds like a belt slipping or a shuddering sound. Not a squeal sort of noise. The new belt made no difference. Tried washing a load on "Quick Wash" and the clothes are still wet.

I don't have a video type of phone or camcorder thing. Sorry.

Okay, I'm standing here listening to it now. It sounds like something is slipping someplace inside the machine. All I can describe it as is if you took a two blade paint mixer in a drill and ran it up to speed and stuck it in a pail of water. Sounds like paddles hitting something wet with a slipping/shuddering sound. Tried a load of 3 pair of jeans on Quick Wash (our normal setting) and got wet clothes. I also tried drain&spin cycle and got an error code indicating "OFF BALANCE LOAD" and the problem as possible repair to the suspension. No other codes came up.
Yeah, I suppose bad suspension could account for the noise I thought was bearings.

Only pther code comes up as Basket Speed Sensor fault...which is the part I just replaced. All connections seem okay, no broken wires.

    Ok,

Does it sounds like this: https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=10204065219851365

If so, I'd check your splutch cam first.

Here's the Splutch assembly with transmission drive pulley for these models:

Video included in part link to access/replace it.

Here's the tech. data sheet for your model: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ag1w33ebnt...v%20B.pdf?dl=0

Do TEST#8: Lid Lock on Page 18.
--->Perform the following checks if the washer does not lock (or unlock).

Does the lid lock switch lock and unlock properly under Manual Test Mode on page 9?

Somewhat like that, but no so mechanical sounding. It's a "wet" sounds to my ear.

I had researched the problem some before finding this site and the splutch problem was the first suggested fix I ran across. I took it apart and I don't see anything worn looking at all. No chipped or worn teeth, no obvious wear. What would a bad splutch look like?

The gears/teeth would look worn and chipped.

Do you have any friends or relatives that have a iPhone or Android phone so you can ask them to come over and make a video of it?
