Default GE Dishwasher GDT695SMJ0ES Keeps Tripping Breaker When Door is Closed

    Model Number: GDT695SMJ0ES
    Brand: GE
    Age: 1-5 years

My dishwasher realized it was just outside the warranty period so it was time to crap out. If i unplug the dishwasher and reset the breaker it does not trip; i can plug it in with the door open and the panel lights up and life is good. As soon as i close the door life is not good and the breaker immediately trips. Any thoughts?

Before you close the door are the LEDs on and are they either blinking or solid?

LEDs are solid; I push all the buttons and everything functions like it should until the door is closed then the breaker trips. Originally the dishwasher would run for about 20 minutes then trip, now it trips as soon as the door is closed.

It's definitely a direct short to ground. Check the wires on the door switch and look for something obvious on the main board.

I checked all the wired connections and looked over the main board and didn't notice any scorch marks or anything like that. I can get the dishwasher to run for about 20 minutes then it will trip the breaker.

If you can't find the short with your meter it might be time to bite the bullet and call for service. Finding a short is usually an easy job but not always. Is the machine on a GFI circuit?

The dishwasher is plugged into an outlet that is on a combination GFCI/AFCI breaker. There's another outlet right next to it that is for the garbage disposal; i tried plugging it into that breaker and it ran two cycles yesterday and still hasn't tripped it. I tried this when the problem first started and it tripped both breakers. I'm at a loss...

There's probably a small leak somewhere if it's tripping the GFI. The leak can be small. Moisture on a wire is enough to trip a GFI. Manufactures recommend not using a GFI circuit. Every dishwasher I've looked at for tripping a GFI has been a leak.

I,too, am having this same problem. My GE profile dishwasher is 2 years old and yesterday at the beginning of the cycle it popped the breaker. I am unsure where to start.
