Default DLG5988B LG dryer hums, starts manually

    Model Number: DLG5988B
    Brand: LG
    Age: More than 10 years

I have an LG dryer that sometimes starts fine, and sometimes hums instead of starting. When it hums, you can start it manually by opening the door, press the door sensor, start button, and then manually start the drum spinning when it hums. Once you do this you can release everything, close the door and it will start fine again.

This happens about half the time. Iíve seen some posts about bad motors with the humming sounds but wondering if itís something else because I can still start it manually.

    Thanks for your help

Clean out the motor and motor switch with compressed air if available. If not, vacuum it the best you can. There could be lint build up around the motor switch keeping it from closing every time. If not here's the motor you need:
