Last night the dishwasher started making a "funny" noise, electrical burning smell and a few sparks at the upper right of the door. I know this is where the control board is located.. Is there anything else to look for when the panel is removed? I have turned off the circuit breaker.

Hi,

Yes, Check the control board, I've seen the control board burn up, or the wire insulation to melt against the inner door liner.

Here's the control board for your model:
Main Control Board WP8564543

Video included in part link that shows "HOW TO" access it. Turn the breaker off to your dishwasher first!

Let us know what you find.

It is in fact the control board. A component burned up and created enough heat to melt through the plastic cover. Also, the ribbon cable passed over the burn and may also be damaged. Is this cable replaceable without replacing the entire control panel? Is there a way to test the ribbon cable? Interestingly, the fuse tests good.

Ok, you found the problem.

Is this cable replaceable without replacing the entire control panel?
Unfortunately not.

Is there a way to test the ribbon cable?
Not that I'm aware of. Was the touchpad buttons still working and responding fine? If so, then your touchpad should be fine.

Here's the Black control panel keypad assembly for your model:

Here's the white one for your model:
