Default 665.13252K113 Dead Kenmore Dishwasher with Burning Plastic Smell

    Model Number: 665.13252K113
    Brand: Sears Kenmore
    Age: 6-10 years

My wife and I came home the other night to find a burning plastic smell in our home. After figuring out that it came from the kitchen, I noticed that the power to our dishwasher appeared to be out. I went downstairs to see if any of the breakers had tripped, and it turned out that our dishwasher circuit had tripped while we were out. I flipped it back on, but the dishwasher remained dead.

I read on a forum that occasionally wirenuts in the dishwasher will melt and cause arcing, resulting in a burned plastic smell. However, after opening up the dishwasher's bottom panel, it appears that the wirenuts are in tact and the connections are reasonably good between the romex and the dishwasher.

After some more reading, I found this thread (https://www.applianceblog.com/mainfo...l-and-now-dead), which suggests that the smell could be coming from our thermal fuse. I suspect that this is the case and intend to order a new thermal fuse harness and swap mine out after testing with a multimeter to confirm. However, the model number on the dishwasher for the linked thermal fuse kit appears to be different, despite also being a kenmore.

Do y'all agree that this is the correct thermal fuse harness, and if so, do you agree with my suspected analysis/plan?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

    Hi Ben,

You have the newer design Kenmore made by Whirlpool, and this model has the thermal fuse intergrated into the main control board.

Here's the main control board for your model you can order:
    W10482988 Electronic Control Board

Its possibly burnt that main control board, a few members have reported the same thing as of late here.

This should be the service manual for your model, if not for your exact model, it will be very close to your model: https://www.dropbox.com/s/1ow0b7m6ei...anual.pdf?dl=0

Start reading at Page 3-5 to get access to the control board and see if its burnt.

Let us know what you find.

    Jake,

Thanks for the reply. I will pull it out and take a look. Frankly, even if I determine that the board is burned out, I don't think I can justify spending $150 to fix a dishwasher that is as old as this one when brand new ones cost $300-400. I'll let you know if I get some time to play doctor. Thanks again for the help!

Ben, This dishwasher is not that old, its a 2012 or early 2013 model.

Post your serial number and I can tell you the month and year it was made.
